Title: K100RS 16v ABS front axle length
Post by: Gene on August 14, 2025, 05:43:02 PM
Hi all! First post, I have just changed front MC and I’ve hit a snag while putting the front wheel back on.
I noticed that the front axle doesn’t sit flush with the fork leg (picture attached). I ordered another one (p.n -417) but it’s the same length as the old one. Is this normal or am I missing something? Spacers are back where they were on the wheel. I’ve looked around but no one seems to give the length of the two axles (-950) and (-417)

Thanks for the help!

Time for a census. You have all these numbered parts except #13 (wheel weight)?

Hi! I had a look when the wheel was off and all seemed to be in its correct place.I thought this morning whether the bearings were the wrong way around but would they even fit that way?

The -950 axle is for an earlier model fork. The bearings have distinct differences. Using the wrong bearing would have shown up as a lock ring problem. The hole through the axle should be at the distance shown in the attached photo when correctly mounted, and the axle should have slid into position in the sliders relatively easily without hammering.

Yes, the hole in the spindle is around there when installed and the thicker part is in contact with the L/h spacer. It went in without any fuss.it’s recessed about 4.5 mm in the r/h fork. I’ve looked more around the internet and it seems normal to have this recess. It’s my first K so I’m trying to figure out what’s “normal”…

What's normal is having all the parts that are illustrated then assembling. It helps to remember the order of disassembly. Many new owners take photos during disassembly—but in this case, that ship has sailed. You indicate having all the parts including an axle with the correct part number. Consider discarding your preconceived ideas of what should be. Find out what is after reassembling it.

What's normal is having all the parts

Meh who needs an engine anyway
