Title: Howdy from Tasmania! And a couple questions?
Post by: simple_ben on June 01, 2025, 11:39:43 PM
Hello all!

New K-bike owner here in TAS. Been lurking here last couple weeks weeks when I got my K100. Such a great community of owners.

So I got my K100 running after fixing all the pinholes in the tank, and a new fuel pump, sorting the master cylinder...

I finally had a chance to take her out for a couple brief rides and couple things stand out:

1. I feel like I'm corning on ice. I guess its the weight and tires. All my other bike ~12 have been about 50-60kg less. This feeling will probably improve in time. Riding style suggestions for this beast?

2. the fuel tank seat, is deeply uncomfortable/ergonomic. The previous owner put a "cafe" style seat on it, its hard but acceptable, but the interface where the tank meets the seat corner just digs in on my inner thighs. Would a seat closer to stock fix that? From what I've read this was supposed to be really comfy bike.

Looking forward to all the comments.

Here are a couple pics

Welcome!  Yes, they are comfy bikes and good for long days in the saddle.

Unfortunately, when they are customized, all the things that make them comfy are cut away to lighten the bike, especially the ability to put on a comfortable seat.  It's the price for riding a stylish bike and part of the mystique of the cafe racer.

The shape of the frame pretty much defines the shape of the seat, and limits the ability to do something like a bobber solo seat.  I can't recall ever seeing a cafe seat on a K bike that looked much different from yours.

Thanks @ Gryphon. As the saying goes I guess this is the price for fashion. At least tonight got a new intake printed up!

His is a scrambler seat.  There are quite a few cafe seat options out there, several of them require robust modding of the frame, like OP did, but several others work with simply a chopped frame, or a simple hoop added after chopping.  They are all fairly uncomfortable though for anything resembling long distance riding.  Of course thats not what cafe bikes are about though.
