Title: Instrument cluster 12 Volt DC power supply connector type?
Post by: schrocketeer on May 07, 2025, 01:37:41 PM
The dashboard on my '86 K100RT has a 12 Volt DC power port that looks almost like a traditional "cigarette lighter" adapter, but not quite. (sorry no photo)
When I went to plug in my Garmin GPS receiver with a 12 V plug, the interior of the socket was smaller diameter, and also included a two finger clamp mechanism for the center terminal.
Let me guess, BMW made their own variant of a DC power socket, like having their own unique handlebar diameter? :-p

Common names:

Plan to replace the Hella/DIN/Powerlet with one of these "cigarette lighter" sockets. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08Y8D2JR2?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
Since it's IP66 rated, I'm hoping that the interior blue LED light will not "bleed out" from the covered cap when not in use, so it's not a distraction at night. Will try to post install photos.
