Good evening bricks
I've read posts on different replacements for starbugs. What I've discovered a while back at the marine \boat place in town is mercury marines "quicksilver" made for spooned under a lot of duress. Its held up perfectly and is the same color as starbugs.

Exactly which Quicksilver product is it, BMWsquirl, what are you lubing with it, what's in it, and for how many miles have you been using it?

Its made by mercury marine.its in a tube made for a grease gun. Ill be dead and still have 7/8 of a tube left.I did my k75 and my r90/6 both held up as expected.10k between the two bikes.its made for splines. Sleep check said spooned didn't v reread my post.outboard motors make a lot of torque .quicksilver is a spline specific lube..the big tube cost 15.00 USD

No molybdenum in it. I would be concerned. The splines on a drive shaft are exposed to sliding motion under high pressure/torque. Molybdenum is one of very few things that will prevent wear in that scenario.
I am not that familiar with Mercruiser I/O drives, but I don't think they expose the splines to the type of wear that a Monolever drive shaft sees.
The Mercruiser stuff just looks like run of the mill grease with no moly. Personally, I would be reluctant to use it on my bike.

Spline lube, not gear lube.
I second the rec for something with a good moly content.

FWIW, the Mercruiser comes in a smaller squeeze tube size for about $15.00, and I use it for the outboard's without issue.
Whatever grease you choose, I'd suggest adding a couple grams of Moly and PTFE to augment the blend. They can both be bought on Scamazon or Fleabay.
Just lubed the FD as a winter maintenance check, still clean without noticeable wear from 2 years ago.

What size outboard? My 25 uses marine gear oil where the drive shaft turns the prop shaft.

now, i do get when you're in your garage on a sunday. Hungover from a good saturday, be it from a long joyfull ride in the sun or just beers. Thinking to myself, "I need to grease my splines".
My first initial thought would be "Do i really need to" or "do i really want to do that?".
When the sum of insanity concludes it is time to yoink it all off and grease it up and then come to the final conclusion that i am out of staburags then i'd considder using some other grease like würth SIG 3000 Spline Grease, Moly 60 Paste.
Other than that i dont really think there is a reason to not just get the grease. But thats on a sunday.
