In the dark evening hours I tend to think of, and research weird stuff I can do with my - or a - k. So far it had led to nice modifications (its in the eye of the beholder) now the next thing that came to mind is the gastank.
Usually i buy a beaten up part to see if itl fit, or what needs to be adjusted to make it fit. Now i am eyeballing a r100gs (dakar) gastank. But man a beaten, rusted and dented gastank starts at about 400.
The only information I need is, "does anyone know how itl sit on the frame, or will it fit over the frame"
the rest is covered and ready to be ordered.

You realize, Vlad, that if somebody has done this and tells you how it was done, when you do it it won't be unique because, of course, somebody else did it first. It will just be another mutant K-Dakar. 177381

Perhaps.
I could settle for rare over unique.
However telling me is not what i was after. I was looking for how it sits on the frame by someone who was busy and had the gastank in their hands and had to set it down to work on their bike and decided to let it sit on a k frame kinda thing.
The info i might have had to share was research shows the width of the tank would be enough for the k frame. But the middle tube thingemy might be less helpful.

seems I remember someone cutting a K tank along the equator, adding about 8 inches of height and glueing/welding/taping it all back together to make one big ugly monster tank

I remember, back in the day, Bob's BMW in Maryland had a huge blocky tank for sale (custom welded), and also a K100 with a Ginormous tank (also custom) for sale. Brick was owned by a guy who apparently Iron Butted every ride ;)

Many moons ago Ray Randolph of Texas used to rework K tanks to hold 8.7 US gallons (33 liters) for Iron Butt riders. I owned this one for a while but never used it. He did a great job on these tanks and they look much better in real life than in pics.

Ha! That'd turn the k into a kuasimodo.
But its not about ironbutting anything or the fuel yield.
Although i would accept the challenge on my k bike. It already rode trough a great part of Europe in between R1200++ bikes and held up nicely.
Its more of a "because I can" kinda reason. plus to be fair, the gastank on a K will not win the miss or mr Universe competition as it looks somewhat unfinished without covers.

In that case, I've spitballed the idea of removing the entire airbox/intake section and fabbing up a gas tank to fit in the lower space. Insulate and computer fans to keep it cool. Would slam the CG!

That'd be sort of amazing.
It has enough space for a rotisserie chicken so why not a gastank.

Good point! With the advent of motothrones, the contest becomes more or less an iron lumbar challenge. The upside, of course, is that competitors would become Iron Lumbarers rather than Iron Butters—a title that has contradictory and confusing implications.
