Title: smartphone mount on K75C?
Post by: gkanai on September 05, 2024, 07:33:16 PM
Hi everyone, I want to mount a smartphone holder for GPS navigation to my K75C. I bought the Quadlock mount as it seems to be popular. There's no room on the bars for the mount on either side of the rubber pad in the middle.

Can the control rocker switch pad be deleted? I dont use mine at all since none of the buttons do anything.

Also, where is the best place to fuse in a usb charger so it's only on when the key is on?

An easy solution for the usb, if you don't want to muck with oem wiring, is to install a switch in serial w the USB and just go right to the battery. It's not as elegant of course, but it's pretty easy and if you mount a lighted switch or lighted usb port it would be easy to see that it's on so you remember to turn it off.  This is what I did on my k75c back in the day and it worked well. Probably want to fuse that circuit if you do that.

Otherwise, you could connect it to the heated grips accessory wire....pretty sure all k bikes have this connector, even if they don't have the grips. Might be taped to your frame(left side iirc) with a plastic cap on the end. For some reason im.remembering the cap is blue, but might be brown, idk.

Yes.

What I always used for switched power to accessories like a GPS is the GRN/BRN wire of the white nylon alarm connector in the relay box. It is switched power from Fuse 7. There is no need to add another fuse.

Thank you all for your guidance! I'll look into deleting the dash pad and see what's possible.

A couple of our members have kept the dash pad and removed one of the switch blanks and mounted through it to the bars. On my K75s I mounted around it on the RH side. I have a few bar mounts with ball joints and ended up modifying one to go around the pad. I couldn't find any pictures but if needed I could probably pull the pad off and take a couple. I also believe there is a mount that goes onto the brake master cylinder.
Regards Martin.

Although the dash pad can be easily removed, I have a feeling it doubles as a safety feature to protect your head or helmet in some situations in an accident. Maybe that's also why the key folds as well. Hopefully a screen mount would be okay.

If your brick has a cigarette lighter, you can get an adaptor to convert it from it's unusual type to a standard cigarette lighter, just look at which fuse it's connected to.
