Title: life expectancy for the OEM fuel Pump on a K bike
Post by: pinhead on May 31, 2024, 04:48:26 PM
I was wondering about others experience regarding the life of an original fuel pump in a K bike.  Any thoughts or experiences to share?  I have 2 nissan trucks and the original fuel pumps failed in them somewhere between 100 and 120K miles.

I had over 200K miles on my 86 and the original pump was still running fine.  I'd think sitting in old gas and corrosion would be the main culprits.

Agree with Chaos, letting them sit idle kills them the fastest. Other than that, the electrical connections and/or the pass thru(level control) will likely fail 1st.

You can get knockoff fuel pumps from China for very cheap these days.

Here's one with a screen for a little over $20:

I've used these on my bike and they work fine.

A new fuel pump from BMW now runs about $450.

EME sells fuel pumps for about $100 but they're just rebranding the Chinese knockoffs and putting them in their Enduralast house brand boxes. (They're making a killer margin!)

The original fuel pump in my '85 K100RS went past 320,000 miles and 35 years before it gave up.  That includes several years late in it's life that the bike was used very sparingly.  Bought a replacement from euromotoelectric and kept going.
