Title: Fuel gauge k75
Post by: Atabeach on May 22, 2024, 10:29:52 PM
The rehab continues….ok so with the battery disconnected and a fuel gauge of uncertain working order, could someone please confirm if this white clip is the fuel gauge 4 pin connector?  Also there was another 3 pin clip ( yellow, blue/ white , brown ) on the left side, this SHOULD be the hazard light clip? The bike is in a state of dis assembly and any expert input would save valuable time..TIA

Yes, the three wire with BLU/WHT is for the hazard switch.

The fuel gauge does not connect directly to the main wiring harness.

That connector with YEL, GRA/BLU, GRN/BLK and BRN from the main harness connects to an intermediate harness that then connects to the fuel gauge and the temp gauge (with another wire from the temp sensor.)

YEL = Fuel level from fuel level sender
GRN/BLK = switched power from Fuse 1
GRA/BLU = backlight power
BRN = ground

A cursory look online says this part may not be so easy to find used and cheap ( Im the latter) So the question begs....Can I jury rig this gauge in? It looks like the yellow wire is the "sending" or signal? TIA BTW if I do obtain a VRO Fuel gauge ....That would have to be wired in somewhere?

Is this (https://www.beemerboneyard.com/62131459963.html) cheap, or what? :think

Cheap enough! However, there should be a way to wire this directly. I am NEVER tapping into that drain plug for a temperature gauge. Thanks.

Although I haven't explored the possibility of having a temperature gauge because I don't like being distracted from my enjoyment by petty details that interfere with my faith in simplicity, I believe you'll need additional parts that plug into the intermediate harness to fulfill your wishes  177381 ; however, I'm certain frankenduck will clarify that if necessary.

I was hoping to test this gauge before ordering the harness. I will probably obtain a  harness for my other k75 …. If in fact this rehab goes well.

You'll notice, of course, that the drain plug isn't tapped, it's replaced. If you haven't posted a photo of the gauge, now would be a good time.

….and yes the fuel gauge looked the same before I took lens off.

So the rehab continues with me removing a perfectly good working BMW fan, and modifying the existing ring to accommodate the Amazon Spal fan…3 hours , $71…plus a gallon of coolant!  Gentleman, I am going to bench run the BMW till it poops out… 🙄🙄🙄.

There's an easier way to mount a Spal fan.

In hindsight I would do it with the metal tabs. My initial thought would be the fan would rattle on the radiator fins. The original ring had to be sliced also. Lot of extra work on my end. Thanks
