Thought I would share a little mod I just completed as I didn't find anything like this on the net when it comes to our bikes. The RS has very little room available for adding GPS / phone mounts but, I think I have a good alternative. RAM mounts makes a handlebar clamp ball in 1''. You can find more on it here:

I just drilled a hole through the impact pad and used an M8-1.25x80mm bolt and a 5/16'' ID x 3/4'' steel bushing. Both off the shelf from the hardware store.

This keeps it protected by the fairing, makes it easy to see, reach, adjust or move out of the way when necessary. Also, easy to swap from the GPS cradle to the phone cradle. I prefer to have a dedicated unit rather than use my phone for navigating but, for the right situation, I can do either one now. This GPS is just an old standard car type (with free map updates) so, it has it's limitations for weather and sunlight but, it will work until I can afford something better suited like an XT2 or Montana.
I hope to add a power port and / or hardwire tomorrow once I figure that out for the best connections.

I have been thinking about putting my GPS unit on my RS for a couple years now. Thanks for posting your solution!
