Looking for a 96 K1100RS SE, the black and silver last edition (I think). All ads I have found are so old you get no response.
Anyone have or know of one?
I'm sure the scammers will be all over this WTB ad.

Mophead,
You're going to have to be patient is my guess. One will show up. I happened upon my '93 last year this time. Wasn't really looking and decided to look on Craigslist for some reason and boom, there was one, sitting in MN less than 2 miles from where my wife grew up. I had wanted the same bike, ended up getting mystic red (had a K11LT same color) and it has the goldish wheels/swing arm, etc. But the mileage was decent and there were a few years of maintenance records, so I grabbed it. Plus it was under $4k with an Ohlins shock and other extras. Use searchtempest.com to search all of craigslist. But look at marketplace on FB too. Sometimes they show up on Adventure Rider too. Maybe you'll get lucky and find one nearby! Good luck! Shaun

Thanks for the link. Appears it has some panel rash on one side and a fair drive to go inspect. Saw another on Facebook but it is in Vermont and 1800 miles away and overpriced. Maybe something shows up closer to home.
Thanks for the help guys!

Johnny, do you have any good images to share on that light mount you have? I'm assuming it's not an off-the-shelf product? Curious to know more.
Mop... I'd add that if you're looking for a mint 30ish year-old, I think that'll be a tough needle to thread, especially if it has to be local-ish. I'd rather have good mechanicals, etc.
and have to do some paintwork... just asked about a repaint on mine... I'll let you know. good luck! Shaun

Interested to know what a quality repaint would cost. I have a 94 mystique red that is cherry and thought about respray in the SE color scheme. These things are just money pits.

Hopefully I'll know more next week. Luckily I didn't get into this bike to save $$ :) It was the bike I wanted in '99 when I moved to Chicagoland from Kansas.

Sure wish I had your Kentucky roads to ride. Been there a couple of times and really nice riding compared to the Texas Panhandle.

There is that... with 9yo twins... I'm on a short leash, but we'll see. I'm a midwest guy at heart. Hoping we can head back that way soon.

80% of a paint job is prep. Drop the bike off and pick it up a couple weeks later and you can easily be talking up to 6+ grand for a paint job, maybe more depending on the color scheme.
On the other hand, spend a couple weeks working in the evening to sand, repair and prime, then drop off the prepped parts at a collision shop for pickup when they're done and the job can be as low as $600(what I paid to have a complete K1100 paint job done a few years ago).
Prep is just time, not too much tied up in materials, and fairly uncomplicated tasks that require a bit of patience and focus. If you want show quality, add in a couple days of cut and buff to completely eliminate any orange peel in the clear coat. That can be a very rewarding part of the job as you see the glassy shine of the finish come out, especially on darker colors.

That's a great idea. I'm mildly skilled! ha! Probably don't need the tank or tail section resprayed.
