I took me nearly a year of riding my K1100 and researching throttle locks to realize that it already had this installed by the PO:

But now I have K#2, and it needs one. And i LIKE this one - still has a bar end weight, it looks like it belongs (not some bright piece of anodized, machined aluminum. A dull piece of machined aluminum). Obviously (I hope?) the knurled ring tightens against the throttle. Does anyone have an idea where I can find one like this?

It's a "Wrist Rest" from Bob's BMW. I don't think they sell the K75/K100/K1100 version anymore.

It is also known as a "Throttlemeister" made by Wonderlich. I got mine used on eBay. Not dure it they are made anymore. Those units from Bob's look exactly the same. Get one if they are still available.

Throttlemeister is similar in operation but different. I don't think TM is in business anymore.

On long trips I used to keep mine adjusted with just enough tension the throttle wouldn't spring back, but was easy to rotate back. The dummy left hand side plug was icing on the cake.

That's how mine is adjusted. Really nice.

Other than both being throttle locks there was no "overlap." Bob's BMW (a BMW dealer) makes Wrist Rests and Throttlemeister, as you can tell from the name, was a company that existed to make throttle locks.
It's a shame that TM is no longer around. Their product just looks like a bar end and is more "refined" than the Wrist Rest. TMs were a bit spendy at about $150/pair for the throttle lock and matching bar end for the clutch side.
Even though all of my Ks have real cruise control, I have TMs on several of my Ks just because they are nice looking bar ends.

I have the style Frankenduck pictured. Can it be refurbished? Mine works but it slowly lets loose and won’t hold the setting.

Just a thought: I've bought some used TMs that seem sticky so I hit them with Gibbs (a penetrating oil) to loosen them up. If that's why yours is loosening then you might want top hit them with some brake cleaner to break down the lubricant.
