Title: K1100 lt fuel tank Rubber seal
Post by: makjoh on June 16, 2023, 02:11:52 PM
I've installed a new fuel pump and filter and cleaned up the tank and fuel sensor gauge. Putting everything back I have a leak from the underside of the tank where the 4 screws secure the fuel sender base unit to the tank. Taking off off again I see the new  rubber o ring is intact, but there is a square indentation for another seal?? There wasn't any seal there when I took the unit apart and I cant find any replacement or info on a seal that is square in shape and fits in there?? Its a 1997 BMW K1100 LT.

 Any advice gratefully received.

There is only an o-ring used for sealing. If an o-ring of the correct size was used, if the o-ring didn't shift out of position as the sender was installed, and if the cover screws were tightened securely without stripping them, then there should be no leakage.

Many thanks for confirming this Laitch. I have re-examined and will install another new o ring. I can see now when turning the tank upside down that there is a little indentation to accept the O ring. I must have over shot this when I put the base plate back
