Title: [WTB] K75/K100 seat latch
Post by: rbm on May 04, 2023, 05:58:30 PM
I need a new seat latch for my K75 (#8 in the picture below).  It has a broken catch so the seat won't latch shut.  Anyone have a spare to sell?

Thank you very much caveman.  I may have a line on one locally.  I'll get back to you if that does or does not pan out.

A good reminder to ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT THE SEAT IS LATCHED DOWN.  If you don't then the seat post rides on the top of the hook and weakens the hook.

I do that Duck.  It might be possible that someone tried to jimmy my seat and levered the seat which broke the lock.  I recall last year that suddenly one day the seat wouldn't latch properly and I though it was an adjustment problem.  This is what actually happened:(https://www.motobrick.com/gallery/4/1601-060523163632.jpeg)

That's a new one to me. I've seen lots of failed hooks and they've all sheared off where the red line is in this pic. I've also seen many with a groove cutting into the top of the hook caused by the seat post riding on them. Hindsight: BMW should've made that part out of good steel instead of whatever pot metal alloy that they used.

Hi caveman,  I met a guy today who gave me a couple of (useless to him) latches.  They had defective locks but everything else was intact and working.  So I swapped out my broken parts for working parts.  Everything is back to normal again.
