Title: WTB - K100RS handlebars - FOUND
Post by: Swampyankee on November 29, 2022, 09:36:30 AM
Looking for a set of RS bars for my K100RS. It came to me with C bars and I'd like to try the sportier posture.

Update - Bought a set from the link to an eBay listing someone posted

Thanx! I was searching eBay specifically for k100rs bars which excluded those from my search results.

I picked up a set of those bars years ago since I wanted to strip my K100RT down. I didn't care for how narrow the RS bars were so I had a friend weld about 5" on to them and that turned out to be perfect. The trick? Try finding that diameter pipe for the extensions. It was tough around where I am (Hamilton, Ontario). Turns out the pipe/handle from an old Black and Decker electric lawn mower was the perfect fit. The pipe is not as thick as the handlebars but, three years on, it has worked out well!

Good to know. Gets me thinking, if I needed a bit of an extension I  could turn up some slugs at work that would double as bar end weights.

My Concours comes in at 29.5 inches and the Moto Guzzi measures 34 inches. Each bike feels just right for me! Never thought of the Kawi as the narrowest but there you go. Have fun.

LOL
BTW, did you add 5" overall or per side?

I never measured to know the diff, but of my previous sport tourers, the bars on my R100RS got too narrow for me as I aged. The bars on my '96 Triumph Trophy seemed to be fine, as were my '98 Connie. I should be ok with stock K100RS bars (I bought the bars in the eBay listing someone posted here) as long as they're just a bit wider than the R100RS. Unlike the R100RS bars which swung within the fairing, I could always add extensions to the K100Rs bars since the ends are out in the open.

It would have been to each side. Measure your new bars and see what you get....then you can play with it from there. Maybe even try some wooden dowel mock-ups if you're really fussy about things. To borrow from the rowing world....just row the rig! We can used to almost anything. I'm sure the engineers at BMW had good reason for choosing the lengths they did but mods that give us greater comfort are good, too!

The RS bars I bought on eBay arrived yesterday. Haven't looked at them since the project is on hold for the Christmas - my-wife's-birthday season.

Volador, no lane splitting where I'm from. Thank God. The drivers around here have enough trouble just keeping their cool and keeping their eyes on the road. You'd never guess that texting and driving is illegal here and comes with hefty fines. It's a "it's all about me society"! As for the bar width, maybe you didn't see my notes about the Guzzi bars at 34" wide (+3" on the Beemer). The fit is right on her, too. Happy trails!

Although technically illegal in MA and RI, I've lane-split but under jam conditions where an air-cooled bike would run the risk of overheating, but it's a dicey proposition and not something I'd do these days. Since I am not a dedicated commuter, I get to pick and choose my riding routes and avoid high traffic and jam conditions at all cost.

But I do like the slim, tucked-in profile of a sport-touring bike, so narrow(er) bars work for me!
