Greetings again,
It's been quite awhile since I have posted on here. Hope everyone's been alright.
I've got some cosmetic issues going on with my K with the gas cap and exhaust heat shield. At least for the gas cap, I'm thinking that it could be re-conditioned with line-x? But that would require disassembly no?
Just wondering if anyone has run into the same issues and some recommendations to resolve them. I have attached pictures below.
Thanks,
Seb

I'd do ceramic coating on the heat shield.
If you don't have a local vendor I use these guys:

Thanks for the suggestion Duck, I've reached out to some local places to see what they would charge for the shield. Any suggestions on the gas cap by chance?

Gas cap:
I've done a gas cap in Line-X. But it was the later style gas cap without the pushable button in the middle like the early K100s have. The button would complicate matters if doing Line-X.
Another option is chrome. I didn't do this. I bought it on Ebay.

You need a good roll pin punch to get the roll pin out of the hinge in order to take the top and bottom apart. It's in there pretty tightly.

You could always replace it with the later version cap.

What he said.
If you bought a later one in good condition then you wouldn't have to worry about refinishing it. And from what I've seen the finish on the later ones tends to hold up better as well.
It's also pretty easy to "rekey" the newer style gas caps to work with your ignition key.

Aesthetically, I like the push-type gas cap more than the later year type. Seeing what the later type gas cap run for, I think I'm going to dissamble the cap and find a local place that can re-finish the cap.
Thank you for your input everyone, I appreciate it.
Kindly,
Seb

Hey again,
I finally got around to ceramic coating my heat shield and wanted to show everyone the results. I think it came out pretty good!
Thanks duck for suggesting the ceramic coating, bike looks amazing now.
Best,
Seb
