Title: Another speedometer issue
Post by: kevinu on April 20, 2022, 03:50:20 PM
Just over 2 years and more than 13,000 miles into my K75 experience, I have this recurring issue:

The speedometer needle does not stay secure.  It appears that the mechanism that holds the needle vibrates significantly - this includes the odometer and trip mileage indicator.   When on bumpy surfaces, I can see these components vibrating and moving slightly.  The tachometer needle on the other side stays very solid and secure and does not vibrate in a similar fashion.  The result is that the speedometer needle sometimes swings to unreal speeds when on bumpy surfaces, sometimes loses the 0 mph position, or sometimes it completely falls off.  Can anyone comment on how solid their speedometer needle is relative to the tachometer needle?  Maybe I have something broken in the odometer/trip mile indicator area that makes it not fit as securely as it should.  Or maybe I am not pushing the needle on to the pine hard enough, but I have tried to fix this several times.

Thanks

Are all the screws that hold the mechanical bits behind the faceplate all tight?  Your description makes me think the meter movement is rattling around.

Check that the speedo sensor connector is clean and well connected. Under right side cover. Follow speedo sensor wire coming from final drive.

I just had it apart and checked that all screws are tight.  I agree that meter movement might be part of the problem.  Next I will check the sensor.

Here's the speedo connector in the cluster. You can undo the two mini screws, pull the connector out and twist the pins a little so that they make better contact.

Frankenduck: I see what you are talking about.  I will try that when I have it apart.
