Title: K75 Swing Arm Bearing Stuck in Swing Arm
Post by: taron32 on April 09, 2022, 01:16:04 PM
Just spent too much money on a swing arm bearing and a pivot pin only to learn that part of the old bearing is still stuck in the old swing arm. I have no idea how to remove it.. any thoughts on this outside of shamefully taking it to a fabrication shop and having it cut?

Thank you

very afraid to put a socket on as a guide and hammer this. flashbacks of all the rollers flying everywhere from the old bearing.

I will admit I have never had to remove one of those bearings, but if I did, I would use a long rod and a hammer to gently tap the old race out from the back side.

I'd probably go to NAPA, Autozone, Pep Boys or one of the other major parts stores in the area and ask if they loaned a blind hole bearing puller with a collet wide enough for that race, which means you'll need to measure the opening then follow the directions if you get one. Applying FreezeOff before pulling might assist it.

All the specialized tools I've borrowed from NAPA or others have been loaned out with a refundable credit card deposit at no charge if returned in good condition.

Why are you replacing it? I've never heard of one of those going bad.

Frank... you're underestimating my stupidity. I was taking the bike apart and somehow part of the bearing came loose. I set the bearing aside with a silver pivot bolt cover but made the mistake of inserting the pivot bolt cover into the bearing... if anyone wants to know, it's nearly impossible to remove it or get grip on the bearing.

Anyway, I got the old bearing out of the swing arm by just hammering from the other end, then heated the swing arm and froze the new bearing, then pressed it in with a piece of wood and rubber mallet. We're back in business
