Title: New BMW bike engine testing

Does anyone know if BMW still takes new engines off the production line and runs them hard?

Think it was in Mick Walker and Peter Dobson's book on K's that that said BMW randomly pulled a Brick engine off the line, and ran it at redline for 24 hours, just to see if anything broke, and needed re-designed.

I've heard about that 24 hour run in.  I'm pretty sure it was only done during engine development, a production engine would have too much invested in it, and it couldn't be sold after the test as it would then be a used engine.

All manufacturers do a run in at the end of the production line prior to release for shipping.  It's the last chance to catch any obvious problems before they can turn into warranty service claims.
