Title: muffler hanger stress when adding left luggage rack?
Post by: jsp1001 on December 30, 2021, 02:24:06 PM
Thanks for allowing me to join. Just bought an 8-year-sitting k75s with solid basics but salvaged due to previous owner's spills. Re-did the fuel tank & injectors and now she purrs.

The bike did not come with side luggage racks so I bought them off ebay, and when mounting the left one, I noticed that the rack's two bottom mount points should be inserted in between the exhust hanger tab and the main aluminum support bracket.  This, however, widens the distance spanned by the two bolts involved, requiring me to buy longer bolts, AND pushes the exhaust hanger about 8 mm closer to the bike.   Finding longer bolts is no problem, but will moving the exhaust be okay?  I've thought about grinding the two spacer washers to make up for the extra 8mm thickness of the rack mounts, but can someone tell me what is the standard steps when adding / removing the left side rack?  (i.e. (1) just move the exhaust and get longer bolts or (2) cut or add washers to try to keep exhaust position undisturbed?

btw the pic is not mine but exactly like mine.

According to the parts list, the screw is an M6x40mm when the case holder is used.

As for the location of the muffler, without the case holder, it's further outboard and when you add the case holder, you are moving it into it's "normal" location.

There shouldn't need to be tension on the muffler. There are two types of muffler mounts—one for motos without case brackets and one for motos with case brackets. Your moto came with the without-style. You now could install the mount style for motos with case brackets, or perhaps, modify what you have. See below.
