Hi all
Some background: Ive got a 88 k75 that won't start. The bike ran prior to being disassembled and reassembled, not run for probably 2 years though. The battery is fully charged, fresh fuel, pump is working, there's spark, leads from the coils to the plugs are correct. Ive put a drop of oil in the cylinders to restore compression as recommended and have cleaned the connection from the fuel tank to the loom.
Changes made to the bike: replaced old injectors with rebuilt and tested injectors, I've removed the air filter box but still have the mass airflow meter just with an inlet pipe and cone filter, new hoses all round, new fluids and filters, BEP3.0 to accommodate new speedo and lights (speedo and lights seem to function correctly thus far)
It's close to starting, as in it cranks, there is spark, and fuel but I'm just getting pops from the exhaust. The occasional flame from the exhaust also.
Ive noticed some damage to the wiring coming from the Hall effect sensor (picture here https://ibb.co/5n64Xbc) could this be enough to stop the bike starting?

If you're getting spark the HES is working. Could be timing, valves, plugs, connections ...........good place to start is here http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=11033.0

I ended up trying a combination of solutions from the thread you sent chaos, cranking with tank connecter detached to get rid of fuel in cylinders, rolling back the starter and bang! it came back to life!
Starts on the button no trouble at all now!

Have you repaired that gnawed cable cover yet?

not yet but its now an added thing on the list for finishing it all up. Id like to avoid replacing the whole thing as even a used one will set me back £70ish. There doesn't seem to be any problem starting the bike now, would heat shrink and some loom tape be enough of a fix?

Beneath the outer covering, the wires from the Hall Effect sensor are shielded to prevent electromagnetic and radio frequency interference with data being transmitted to the engine control units. The shield is grounded. If the shield is damaged, interference with the Hall sensor data transmission can affect starting and engine performance. Covering the damaged area with loom tape will prevent incursion of moisture and grime. You should do that if you aren’t ready to spring for a new setup. Tape is unlikely to prevent electrical interference with the data signal when shield damage has been severe. If your moto has intermittent performance problems in the future after taping the damage shown in the photo, that cable bundle could be at the root of it.
