Title: K1100 won't start after ABS Removal
Post by: toomuchhype on June 17, 2021, 10:41:46 AM
Hello Members,

I am currently converting my 1992 K1100 LT into a café racer style.  Bike was running great just days ago.  The next step I did in the conversion was finishing the removal of the ABS brakes (which were already removed by previous owner).  In doing so, I removed the ABS large wire loom, two ABS relays under the tank/seat.  I also removed the power windshield relays in front of the bars.  Did nothing else.

After some of that electrical surgery, the bike won’t power up.  No power to the fuel pump/gauges.  My turn signals and horn work.  But it seems that there is no power.  Battery is good and tested.  Fully charged.

Any ideas?  See photos of the relays I removed.  Can anyone confirm that these relays should have no impact in the basic operation (aka starting) of the bike?  Just want to make sure I start the process of isolation and troubleshooting but confirming that what I removed should have no impact.

You are doing this testing with the bike on the center stand and have the side stand retracted?
Check your side stand switch as well as the kill switch, either one or both will kill the fuel pump and gauges.

Just saying that it is not a good idea to start clipping wires indiscriminately unless you fully understand what it is the components do and what effect you have on the system by eliminating such components. Did you cut out those devices just because they were blue in colour?
