Title: Exhaust pipe muffler question
Post by: Billk on April 26, 2021, 04:46:57 PM
Can someone recommend a paste I can use at the exhaust pipe muffler union.
Number 17 , the gasket shown in BMW Max micro fiche,  I’ve heard is a monster to put on.
Any remarks would be appreciated
Bill

I’ve heard is a monster to put on.
All I had to do was slip it into the opening and clamp the muffler and the exhaust pipe together. The only way to make it simpler would have been for somebody else to do it while I sipped coffee. The rest of the operation was just nut-and-bolt. Maybe somebody else here more in touch with reality will explain how difficult it is to do.  icon_cheers

It's just a gasket. There's no need to use the $15 BMW one that disintegrates every time you take the exhaust off. I just wrap a few layers of aluminum foil exhaust tape around the header outpipe. A $7 roll of that will last you a "lifetime."

I slipped the gasket over the header pipe before sliding the muffler on. This way it was able to stay round.

^ I like the tape idea better! That gasket is $$.

I'm using one of Bocutter Ed's creations.  Works a treat.
