Title: 1999 K1200LT resto
Post by: Rcgreaves on April 15, 2021, 04:53:38 PM
Another Craigslist, find 20k, otherwise we’ll maintained.

Seller had a wire short and start a small fire. Fairing untouched.  Wires singed radiator fan blade melted.

My question to the asylum: any reason I should run away from this model?  Price was very right issues forcing the sale not particularly challenging from my chair...Some might ask what Clay needs with a 5th cycle... that’s not the help I seek.

Who has ridden one.  Reverse on a brick sounds cool!

If it isn't running, resolve yourself to dedicating plenty of time and/or money to get it on the road.
Then there's this.

+1 Laitch

I made it to 17:00 and the paper funnels and had to turn it off.  The deal is not done, but I had no clue...Time to get after servicing the bricks I've got.

I bought two brand new ones. The first one (1999 ) was so bad that BMWNA gave me a refund. First five months that I owned the bike it spent seven weeks in the shop with only 13,000 miles on the clock. Had to be towed in many times. More problems than can be listed starting with an engine replacement at 900 miles. Second one ( 2000 ) ran absolutely flawless for many miles and years.

Every summer the K1200LT's come out on Craig's List like dandelions in my lawn.  They are priced not much higher than a nice K1100 despite not having accumulated many miles.  Judging from the photos, they stay on the market year after year.

I saw one a few years ago in a local BMW specialist's shop with it's fairing off.  I was shocked at how much wire and stuff they hung on that bike!  The whole bike looked like under the tank on a K bike.  It didn't look all that user friendly from a service point of view.
