Hi
I have just been offered a k100 that was originally made with a fairing but it has been removed due to damage. I want to make it into a naked version. Is there any difference in the mounting points on the frame or anything I should be aware of?Like special parts etc unique to the naked model?
The bike is some considerable distance from me. I have seen photographs but not the bike. Therefore I would like to get an idea of what is involved before buying the bike.
Any info would be great.
Best Wishes
Shane

You should get the moto's serial number from the seller to verify the model, date of manufacture and that it isn't stolen.

As you can see, the naked bike has a headlight/instrument cowl and a radiator shroud not found on the RS or RT.
The radiator shroud is held on by the grommets in the tank.
IIRC, there was a thread here or on K100 about someone else doing the same conversion...

Shane - You could always just buy headlamp clamps to fit the forks and any headlight/indicators you like. The Speedos are already contained in a big box. You could also fit a grill over the radiator. There are lots of customiser's who are trying to part with their fairings so you may be able to replace the plastic quite cheaply if you want. I gave mine away to a BMW spares man in Derby and he may still have them.

Hi Shane, just stripped my '86 K100 RT. Too hot with the big fairing. I didn't go nuts on the replacement bits (headlight ears, headlight, used signals and some heavy cage - spray-painted - for the rad protection. I like the plain look of these beasts. Kept all the OE connectors. Have fun!

The old sideways photos....sorry about that!

It provided a good neck stretch, thanks, could you post some to the other side now.

Assume the shirshasanna position (yoga headstand) then you can turn your neck the other way to look at it.

Good one, I think.
Edit; I remember that movie from many moons ago, it's on TV right now (7pm) in Melbourne.

You can get a bracket to support the headlight and indicators. I've got one on my black bike. There is a photo of it (poor focus but anyway) on the thread "how to ride home when your fuel pump fails" the handlebar looks and feels better too I recon. I think the previous owner told me the handlebar was from an R model BMW.
The indicators are from a v star (or virago, they're the same) I got it that way.
