Title: K1100 Clutch is weak
Post by: PitMyShants on June 26, 2020, 03:28:53 PM
Ina bit of a conundrum here. Neighbor asked to borrow Beamer and I said, "go for it.. Please top off the oil with some of the 20w-50 I have sitting in the garage"

He's a long time motorcycle owner so I didn't even think twice.

Came back a few hours later and mentioned clutch felt like it was slipping. I asked what he did. He added about ~0.5L oil off the oil using an allen wrench. :johnny

The allen wrench is for the tranny...

I drained the tranny and it was well above my tool's marker... Filled to correct level and I've got a bit of slipping now :(

I've changed friction plates and even entire clutches on dirt bikes plenty of times, wondering how much more difficult this is going to be. Should I adjust play and see if it gets any better? I'm guessing the plate is contaminated with oil and needs a change, unsure of seals, etc.

And I was having a great Friday too..

If no gear oil or engine oil is dripping from the weep hole beneath the intermediate housing, everybody should sleep it off then somebody with a couple of wrenches and the ability to follow printed instructions should look into the K1100 manual downloadable here (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,11014.0.html) go to Chapter 21, Page 11 and follow the instructions with the drawings starting in the top of the left column, then to the instruction below that then over to the right column, then wash up.

If oil is dripping from the weep hole, everybody should sleep it off anyway. :laughing4-giggles:

Great, I'll give this a read when I get home. No oil under the bike at all, had been looking for it from reading another thread (but also thought there was some confusion about a 95 that didn't have a weep hole).

Ok, so took the time to get proper adjustment to the cable and adjusting screw, but I am still feeling some slip higher up in the revs. I think the friction plate might just not be in the greatest of shape, but she's definitely still rideable.

Also used Chris Harris for help:

It may have burned a little, but the way I ride this bike shouldn't change much. It's really only noticeable when trying to pull hard on the throttle. I think I'm also stuck with some confirmation bias against this anyway and am noticing it because I'm focused on it...

What is it that you're biased against confirming? It sounds Sisyphean. There's a Sisyphean society here if you're looking for support instead of resolution but the founder might be out fishing.

No, you guys are great. I mean I’m so focused on the clutch now even though it seems to be running fine.
