So yup, i'm dumb. I wanted to take a look inside the gearbox/transmission. As I was removing the cover, this piece came out (see photos). I didn't get the chance to see where it came from. I checked the repair manual and BMW Max site and checked all the parts. I can't figure it out. Anyone by chance know what this is and where it goes?

What was your reason for disassembly? Was the shift lever loose and shifting gears a problem?
-
That is the roller that is on the end of the shift forks. It rides in the shift drum grooves. If you are having trouble shifting, that roller not being where it belongs is the reason.

As far as I know, they don't fall out. Is the bike new to you? Is it possible someone else has been in the transmission and let it fall off the fork before you got the bike?
I had to tighten the grub screw in my K75RT and one of the rollers gave me fits when I was putting it back together.
