I matched to University of New Mexico Hospital for Internal Medicine. Looking forward to starting there in July! And also looking forward to year-round riding!
Any locals have suggestions for nice rides in the area?

Congrats! Get map and look for wiggly lines. As I recall from a couple trips there and Colorado, almost any road following a stream through a canyon is going to be a nice ride. Early morning rides in the summer is best.

Perfect plan!
I was planning to get my sport pilot license this spring before starting residency, but it is potentially looking like that is on hold due to the shelter in place orders, we'll see in a week or two when my lessons were supposed to start. With all that extra time, I may be riding the Guzzi to ABQ, which will be quite a ride, and a perfect way to distance myself socially.

Max, you may bump into Dr. Jack Stewart, and Dr. Kelly Beckley-Stewart, both cousin's of mine, and super cool outdoors people.
Lot's of riding around the Sandia's (Burger Boy is a must stop at) up to Santa Fe.

Eventually you need to wend your way south to the Sacramento Mountains. The Tularosa Basin/ White Sands sit at around 4000' MSL, while the Sacs rise to the mid-9000s, with Sierra Blanca outside of Ruidoso topping out above 12k. LOTS of twisties and 2ndary roads here.
The ADVrider site has a thread about some of the more scenic rides in the state. Watch for free-roaming horses on reservation lands, and piles of horse hockey in the middle of the road on those early morning rides. Route 66 is mostly I-40 now but still some awesome ridng out that way. Be sure to check out the Land of Fire and Ice to the west of ABQ when the weather's cool, and tours of the Trinity site down this way when the cuffs come off the country.
Take your old Beemer out at the Balloon Fest, drop hints about being a sport pilot, and I'm sure someone will offer you a ride in one of those things. Welcome to the state!

Do you know if the "Tire Singing" works with motorcycles? It's just east of Albuq, past the ASRT Museum (Rt 66 I think). Super fun to drive over the corduroy and hear America The Beautiful. Might be scary on a bike if the cut's are too deep.

I’m a fan of ABQ! I visit a dealer there for work (in the auto business) and live in the Phoenix area. Lots of good rides towards the AZ NM border and monument valley / southern Utah is close as well.

the ride up to Santa Fe ski area is a great trip, also the ride up to the top of Sandia ski on the back side of the mtn next to ABQ is good.
If Ï can ever get this bike running for more than a couple miles i’ll hit you up when i’m back in the area
other than being hot, it should be fun in the sun ¡ENJOY!

Wmax, if you visit the Biopark/Aquarium, ask for Rich Learner. He moved there from Baltimore a few years back.
He has a K1100 and may have some decent riding info...... When I visited him back in Jan, he was mumbling something about retirement.... so not sure if he's still working thru the covid situation still...

Gotta stop at Caliche's Frozen Custard on the North side of Las Cruces in SE New Mexico when on a nice hot weather ride. Ask for the green chile custard (yes, not making this flavor up).
