Title: Finally joined after bricking myself last summer
Post by: SHNAPS GUY on March 19, 2020, 11:00:26 PM
Hello all, thanks firstly for a ton of great info over my first year of K-bike ownership. I'm getting back into motorcycles, after about 20 years off, as a reward for getting my hip replaced at the ripe age of 40.

I grabbed my 1992 K75 RT last summer from my mechanic neighbor, whos wife was the primary rider. She'd ridden it to CA from WI and back the previous year, so I knew it was reliable; and at $800, plus another $100 for a mismatched set of Integral cases, the price was right!

The front end had a bad headlight and rusty universal turnsignals, which I replaced with a 7" "Halo" LED and cascading LED turns.

Anyway, stoked to be here on 2! Next week with a sudden lack of work to do, I'm going to be deleting the non-operative ABS system, replacing bent handlebars, re-clamping the forks so they're actually even, and doing a few clean up and brighten up projects that I've had in mind. I'm warmly remembering my old BMW forum days from mye28.com as I read the posts here, and I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you all. TIA!

Alas no. Sold "Heidi," my last 535is after 10 years and 150k+ of good times and road trips back in 2010. Also had a 535i in Zinnabar Rot, and, my first BMW; a 1985 635CSi 5 sp in Schwartz/Schwartz that had 47k on it when I bought it in '99. Too much for a college kid, but I had the coolest car on Langdon St. for a few years there....that's the only 4 wheeler out of 30 or so I regret selling.

Now I have a W211 MB E320 CDI (242k, GDE Tune, Koni Sport Adjustables) for my work car, and a '16 Focus ST (Cobb Tuned, Exhaust, Intake, Short Shift, PS4's) for weekend duty. I think the ST will be going away to make room for more 2 wheeled fun though.....I see a K1100RS in my future....

Vintage, like fine wine? Mellowed, like good whiskey?

Sorry, my sarcasm didn't come through that well. I thought I was pretty young to be having a hip r&r...the doc didn't seem to agree!

No apology necessary, I was just thinking I'm awfully old not to have at least one artificial joint.  Laitch's response is more what's expected around here  :welcome

Yeah, some of us have twisted senses of humor on the brick.... You will get used to us...

But yes, 40 is a bit "under ripe" for a new knee...

Oh, so it'll be like the old mye28.com days....perfect. I'm glad I found a group that matches my Martini-dry wit!

Ha my only replaced (partial) joint is my right thumb!.

ABS isn't that hard to rejuvenate and I can tell you that once it engaged once, I was glad I did so on my K75!

But I would take that ABS stuff off your hands if you go through with it. I need them for strategic troubleshooting purposes. Welcome here.

I dug up (rummaging in boxes) a matching set of Gen2 knee's, pristine, never installed. I'll look for the Iconic 22 Tibial plateau that goes with the set. PM for price/trade. Check your bursa's and proper lube, you may want these replacements.

apologies to the Mod's, as I'll switch this to Marketplace if deemed.

Do you provide stylized monograms on those or is that up to the purchaser?

These are GPS enabled, and pre-wired by Stark Industries. Monogram would be nice, but slapping some BMW MOA stickers would look youneek on Shnaps build.

Such a deal! Luckily, my knees are still in good nick, so I'll pass for the moment....thanks anyway. Beautiful pup in your avatar!

But I would take that ABS stuff off your hands if you go through with it. I need them for strategic troubleshooting purposes. Welcome here.

Shoot me an email if you're still interested after this: I have no idea if the two pumps are working or not. It hasn't had an ABS brain in my stewardship, and I cut one of the connectors near the harness connection on the removal. I have both pumps and the bracket. Hard lines are cut and gone.

To those who advised keeping the ABS: it had no brain when I got it, the front has Galfer wave rotors with no ABS tooth ring or sensor. It would cost me more $$ to revive the old system and still have old lines, pads, etc. Part of my idea is an eventual 4 pot Brembo front setup, with the 15mm master cylinder off an Airhead. My change is using the non-ABS factory Y-pipe, and separate lines instead of the steel crossover line on the ABS model. I'm all for the safety of ABS, but I'd rather use the $$ to ditch some weight and setup for future performance gains. I promise when I get my 1100RS or 1200RS, I'll keep everything as our Bavarian overlords intended.
