Title: Front fender option for 1987 K100RS naked.
Post by: Texer on March 03, 2020, 02:08:18 AM
Hi I’m wondering what could be a possible option to replace the large front fender on my K100 RS.  I have nothing against its efficiency, I just want something with a little less visual weight since I have removed the fairings. And, I have a question, it has a great fork brace that I think is not compatible with the smaller fenders from the other versions. Is it possible to switch out with another fork brace and bring in and mount another fender. Thanks in advance.

Hey - are those dark red hoses on your bike the silicone water hoses from BSK in England?

There are many examples of options in this section. Maybe some of thpse customizers will chime in. Some members have even sculpted the original with a cutting disc.

Weigl Telefix fork brace for the K100 1983-  41.3mm  part# 65.15.34  if you can find it was an option once upon a time

Thanks - I also think I may try this again; an R80 that scraped the tire because of force fitting.  I think I can possibly remove some of the fender material to let it slide up further into the brace.

Thanks, I really like it.  Not a turbo though.  Give it a hill; it’ll try!

Ha!  I had this on my 1982 R100CS back in the '80s... until I wrecked the bike in 1988.  Great & cheap handling mod for that bike.

Hi - Cafe 4 Racer have a custom built unit which incorporates a replacement fork brace. There are also a lot of builders who made their own braces and fitted standard fenders.

I took the lezy option and went at my fender with a hack saw and file and reduced the bulk. and once painted black looks OK

Thanks for the link! I had seen the cafe4 items also.  I just wasn’t sure of the fitment and also wanted more functionality.  It looks like you have done a great job with yours.  I’m still working with the r80 fender and will either modify the brace, or fender, or both. I’ll post pics when the install is done.

After exploring the few versions of braces that would work with this fender I decided to modify to suit [/img]after all. Essentially I removed the fork material that obstructed the K100rs brace and then began an attachment and refinement plan.  Now the fender has clearance.

Sorry I’m late to the party. When I stripped my 85 RT I had the same concern out the visual aspect of the fender. I cut the end off, used the factory edge as a tracer to round it off. Nice and easy and didn’t have to go to the store for anything.

Thanks - Looks great. I found that my sliders have mounting points on them for the brace that would not let a fender like yours go on.  I’m curious - does yours have a brace under the fender itself? Say like a ‘74 Bmw r series does has the steel under the plastic fender.

The early K100's have a one-piece front fender and no fork brace.

Thanks - I guess I’ve read something about that change to the models.
