Title: CA Emissions, is it necessary?
Post by: Supershooter on February 29, 2020, 04:09:48 PM
I’m refreshing my 85 K100, and have discovered it has the emissions hardware. Can I eliminate the emissions hardware or will I have issues getting the bike to run correctly?

Which hardware is that—the tube connection from the tank to the crankcase that has the one-way valve?

That tube and the hardware that’s screwed to the back side of the throttle body.

Plug off the tubing at cyl#1 and tape up the electrical connector to the harness somewhere. No longer needed

That tube and the hardware that’s screwed to the back side of the throttle body.
You can cap that tube's port at the crankcase then run the tube from the tank port to exit behind the right footpeg plate. Alternatively you can install the BMW accumulator cup—16132307467—on the frame under the tank, run a hose from it to behind the peg plates and the ports can empty into it.

Regarding the vacuum switch: it was discontinued. Nobody seems to be complaining (http://www.k100-forum.com/t8784-purpose-of-vacuum-switch-on-rear-of-throttle-bodies#103282) about missing its function. Just verify no vacuum leaks when you disconnect it.

Is the fitting in the block threaded?

A piece of tubing at the front of the crankcase underneath the radiator shroud
your 85 K100 may or may not have the crankcase tubing due to the date of manufacture and when those emissions standards enacted

which is connected to a gray check valve via hose somewhere under petrol tank

which is connected to the forward tubing under the tank of the 2 tubings grouped together
the forward tube is the tank air vent
rear tube is the rain drain of the tank cap

remove the check valve and can use an accumulator cup under petrol tank which makes tank removal easier in the future or
connect long hoses to the rain drain and tank vent tubing
route downward along the backside of the right footpeg plate as above indicated
cap off the crankcase tubing however you deem suitable, a screw, a folded over piece of hose zip-tied, a golf tee
