Title: K100RS
Post by: beemuker on February 23, 2020, 08:22:41 AM
Was thinking of getting something with a little more ye haw to compliment my K75, was thinking a K1100Rs, but saw this on CL. Pretty far, 6 hour drive, butts looks reasonably priced and It is an RS. Watta you guys with the eagle eyes think. Wish it had the rear rack so I could fit iconic 22.

LT bars?

Not crazy about the white saddle.

Otherwise looks like a fine specimen.

Probably one of the better examples out there, I'd ask if the original bars are still around.  I like my city cases almost as much as my iconic box.

Despite its having a high handlebar, it still has the RS low bar crash pad so converting to low handle bar would only involve installing a bar using a shorter front brake hose and accelerator cable. When I converted my moto to a low bar, the clutch cable seemed to adapt to it.

I've got a stock, black corbin, and a sargent from K75's, so any of those should fit the K100, right?

Clear windshield, Euro model?  Not sure about the white seat, but there are lots out there to replace it.  Paint doesn't look bad and it still has mirrors.  49,000 miles isn't bad.  Looks to be well maintained so the splines are probably nice.

City cases!!!

Almost any K seat from 86 on should work.

I believe I have an extra rack/trunk mount for the tail cowl section.
I'll take a look if it makes the deal for you.

I hear ya, but not too many for sale for less than 25 hundred that don’t have issues, like this probably stolen one https://www.shoppok.com/chicago/a,54,342365,1992-BMW-K-1100-RS----1300--ROUND-LAKE-.htm?utm_source=ClazAutos&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=global&trmsource=clazoutfeed

I bit. going to pick it up Saturday. will post some pics .
probably will try to go back to the stock RS bars . Does anyone have some lying around they want to part with? according to Max's  they are the same as the stock bars on the 75s .[ 32 71 1 453 072   ]
seller thinks he has the shorter cable, so all I'll need is a shorter brake line.
I'm sure the 75s will be jealous, hope it won't start turning green, I kinda like the yellow.

Honest to god, the only time my K75 stranded me in 33 years was on my way home from putting money down on my Ural.  Maybe buying a closer relative will assuage your K's apprehension, maybe not :johnny. Congrats, remember, the proper number of bike is always one more.

The dilemma I see in my owning multiple Bricks would be that all of them will be ridden less. As tales of woe on this site seem to regularly depict, idle time is not healthy for Bricks. I'd likely be wrenching more and riding less which would mean even less riding on the one I'd probably be riding most.
 :laughing4-giggles: No can do.

I don't know, I have had three usable bikes in the garage for several years, and as long as I get a couple thousand on each one during the season, they don't seem to suffer from neglect.

I think the secret is to do a complete service on the fluids every year regardless of miles, especially the brakes.  I also try to use at least a complete tank of fuel each month so the crap they sell today doesn't sit in the tank for more than 3-4 weeks.  I never put a bike away for the winter with corn in the tank.  Corn free is all I use between October and April.

Beemuker lives in Flordia so he has the opportunity to ride all year.  As long as he doesn't let a bike sit for more than a couple months he'll be fine.

Thank goodness that K Pox isn't fatal!

Aside from rebuilding the transmission, rear end, several U joints, clutch, cracked wheel rims, major rust problems and discarding the electric starter all before 50,000 miles, it's been a very dependable ride.

Don't get me wrong. It is a nice bike, the engineering is sound and I like how it looks. However, it is still a 30 year old bike and no amount of war paint and make up will make it worth 20K. If you are going to customise a bike you have to understand that it's value will not go up. I think I could probably get more than I paid for my K100,  but I got it cheap because it was not - A) In very good cosmetic condition. and 2) It was not one of the desirable models. I do appreciate that Retrorides probably invested a lot of time, money and engineering know how in developing the rear suspension set up. But they are never going to recoup their investment from overpricing old bikes. I don't expect to make money out of my build. Just enjoy it.

Range Rovers aren't worth their price either but people still buy them. When people are intoxicated by style and have money to pursue it, no price will stand in their way. All it takes is one buyer, and patience.

The seller  of the K100 said  he had someone local who was on fire to buy it, and without actually seeing and riding it I wasn't 100%, so I said sell it. I saw a clean looking  94 R1100RS on fleabay [70K mi.] for $1800 BIN . The seller only lived a few blocks from my brother on Miami Beach. My brother looked it over , took it for a test ride , and gave it the thumbs up. So a deal was struck.  I know I don't need 2 bikes, but was looking for something with a little more HP and a little different. Hope it fits the bill. It came with the side bags, not city.cases though. . Does that rear case make it's butt look big?

It does give it a buttocular look. In some cultures that is attractive.  112350

Congratulations. I've always liked the looks of those. The early models had a reputation for surging at low speed but it's in their electrical genes, not a dire symptom of mechanical doom. The two owners I know ignore it. It's like living with tinnitus.  :laughing4-giggles:
