Well actually 2
Having change the the final drive oil (well all the fluids actually) I've re filled the final drive with .25l of gear oil which is what my clymer says it should be - now gear oil being gear oil you always get a little left behind in the container so is there any way to dip it to check the level is right ?
2nd question
I've got a genuine top box rack to go on it (the LT 35 litre one) but can anyone give me some detailled pics of how it is mounted as I think mine has grown too many spacers over the years between the tragkorb rails and the frame - I'm assuming that the rack fits outboard of the tragkorb rails is that correct ?
First ride out this weekend in 3 months on the K !!!!!!!
Cheers

you are freaking me out...
i just pull the speedo sensor and fill it up to the bottom of the speedo sensor hole... when it getts hot it will seek its own level by blowing out the vent... this way you dont have to buy a crush washer for the fill port...
i avoid using the rear brakes n turning right till i gett mass weepeege... then i clean the rotor off real good and ride it till it wont move...
about the 35l... those are what posers use... real motobrickers use the 22l...

I go to the trouble and expense of getting a crush washer for the fill-hole. :) I measure the fluid but I also look in the fill hole and make sure the level is up to the bottom threads. For the transmission, there's the bayonet gauge in the tool kit.

I just anneal the crush washer. If its copper, heat till red, then allow to cool. Aluminium, Just heat till it changes color/texture.

I fill my crankcase to the bottom of the fill threads. Can't have too much of a good thing. Works great with the forks too, nice firm road gripping feel. And speaking of feelings, what the hell happened to my avitar?

I've heard of guys doing that too. I just get 'em from the dealer about 10 at a time so I always have some on hand.

I also bought a bunch of 1 time use copper ones from aircraftspruce.com. They are copper rolled around some sort of filler (foam or fiberglass), and compress with torque. Very cheap.

Surely you guys wouldn't change the cursh on the filler every change? its not under particular pressure is it - my view of it has been its there to stop any dribbles of oil getting past not like the washer on the drain.
As far as the top box goes the 35litre means I can get to work every day without tragkorbs on (or at worst citys) and keep the bike nice and narrow
My bike has spacers (about an inch) between the tragkorb rails and the frame mounts but looking on real oem they are not shown as part of the parts fiche. on the horizontal tab it also has a flat plate to space the mount out about an inch from the frame (in line with the rear spacer) . If I try and fit the topbox kit up outside the tragkorb rails then nothing seems to meet - if I take the spacers out as per the parts diagram then there's one hell of a curve in the plastic tragkorb rails !

I don't even replace the drain washer every time. As long as it doesn't leak, WTH.
