Title: Cleaning Tips or Tricks Please
Post by: Supershooter on February 16, 2020, 05:31:00 PM
I’m attempting to clean my brick for a new paint color. The years of road grime a leaks have taken their toll. I’m curious what you’ve had success with and won’t leave issues. Here’s what I’m dealing with. So far he used car soap, dish soap, sponges, and a nylon brush.

Sunlight bar soap, water, stainless steel wire wool and elbow grease. A friend of mine's method.

Straight undiluted cuts through the muck & grease quickest
Do not leave on aluminum for very long time it will discolor/etch the surface, scrub & rinse
Get it at Home Depot. The Lowes version, different brand name was not as concentrate/powerful, waste of $$.
YMMV

What Chaos said.

They say that steel wool and aluminum are a bad match, the steel wool leaves behind tiny particles that oxidize.

Lol... Car wash.  Or dish soap!  Those ain't gonna do much.

Gotta use strong degreaser like purple power, variety of stiff nylon brushes, pressure washer and brake cleaner.

Wd40, while entirely useless as a lubricant, is actually a great cleaning solvent when used with those yellow rags from Costco.

Has anyone ever tried vapor blasting to clean up these alloy parts? From the videos I've seen on YouTube, I think it looks promising to restore the original new look finish.
