OK.

I'm better now.

Resisted the urge. I have no idea if $2,600 for a lowish mileage 1998 K1200RS is a good price but it seems good to me.

I feel STRONG! (Also my wife advises me I can only ride one bike at a time and I should feel lucky to have the one I do.

My response is that I've been with this bike longer than I've been with her which doesn't seem to go down that well. Also, she can share me.

I know.  Hopefully someone on here buys it and then I can stop wondering how it would ride? Because the temptation is to hook a trailer behind the pickup and head on down there to Madison.

I need to talk myself off the ledge here.

You apparently aren't familiar with the transmission input spline problem of the early six-speed K and R models. Is that something you'd like to court? :-)

Hahahahaha Awesome that's EXACTLY what I need.

In other news, I just missed out on this (I had the low bid).

Keep looking I guess. Too bad they don't remove the driveshaft and final drive when they "cafe" K75s. (they should, put in a chain drive I mean, when they're bastardizing the bikes anyway).

Well, keep looking because it's the six-speed oilheads, not the Ks that have the problem. That just came to me in a moment of clarity. If you want a plus-600lb moto for your golden years, don't let me stop you. There are still some of those checkered K1200 Orcas out there to be had. I'll probably wind up with a Moto Guzzi V7, if any of the used ones haven't fallen apart by the time I'm ready. :-)

You didn't miss out that 31/11 is for a K100

It would fit a K75, but there's no point crying over spilt 80W90. It's unsettling the seller referred to a K100S but that might have been a personal term of endearment.

About 20 years ago when I was a member of BMWMCQ this was owned by one of the members. Unfortunately  I can't remember his name or what happened to it. I do remember that he spent hours possibly days or weeks polishing his engine with stainless steel wire wool and Sunlight soap. However I have recently connected with a couple of club members on a recent rally I'll see what I can find out.

Asked GB777 on the K100-forum about his moto earlier this May
That is strikingly cool looking moto

"T$$, there was a little bit of modification required to the fairing.  A little cut out on the side so the thermostat could poke out and some slight alteration to either side of the fairing so it could match up to the K100 tank shape.  I didn't want to use the K75 tank because it would be another expense to get it painted. If you could get a K75 tank the right colour it would fit and would then only need to mod for the thermostat because the radiator on the K100 is further forward than the K75.  The photo below was taken just before I sold the bike after owning it for eight years."

The S fairing looks good on either the K 75, or K100.

Volador I thought it might have been Gary's and I sent him a query. I met up with him again on the Kane toad rally after about 20 years.

Small world. Gary's former K100S rear rack looks like a Iconic Soggz' version 2.0

Gary's current ride got all the farkles. Another sharp looking machine

"'94 K1100RS Mystic Red
•Dyno Tuned to deliver 115 bhp. •Audiovox CCS-100 Vacuum Cruise Control. •Fuel Plus Version 3.1 Trip Computer. •R1200c Final Drive Gears (32/13 or 2.54). •Ohlins rear shocky. •K100 Aluminium Radiator fitted. •Davis Craig Thermo Switch fitted to Cooling Fan with manual over-ride. •Fuel Cap drilled and tapped to provide mounting points for accessories, including mini Tank Bag & Garmin 390 Zumo GPS •HID Hi-Lo Headlight and every incandescent bulb on bike replaced with LED's. •Bulb monitoring warning light no longer needed so converted to indicate when Side Stand is down. •LED (Halo) Front Park Light (BMW Car style)."

Good point! I figured it would give me a bit less acceleration off the line in exchange for a bit lower RPMs at highway speeds.

If I don't succeed elsewhere, it's back to Hansen's.

I hesitate to completely disassemble my FD to get the pinion gear out. If I had bigger testicles / more time (or both) I'd just buy a new pinion with the correct number of teeth on the inside (10 I guess?) and a new drive shaft and then put it all back together again. There are so damn many little seals and bearings and retaining rings and god knows what other things, it is a bit intimidating.

It doesn't matter how fast you get off the line, you won't get back to your prime. :-) I would have bought it for my K75 if I'd been looking for one; it's good for long distance cruising.

I'm not getting of the line due to the conditions of my spline, really all you're hearing is a whine and there is no way I'm going to find my prime!

I had no complaints with the 10/32 and that would be my preference but there are very few that come up for sale with the DS and splines looking good. Usually just one or the other. I'd take a crashed bike as well for parts as long as the DS/FD looked good.
