Title: $48 FPR and Cross Referencing
Post by: 1ockdown on October 22, 2019, 10:03:57 AM: Just thought I'd share my finding as I haven't seen anyone post this before, and if it was, sorry in advance. I've been looking into replacing my FPR for some time now, but refused to pay the OEM fee. I've seen other sites that charge a lesser amount, but I thought I'd do some research and cross reference some part numbers and such. This led me to finding http://partsplusecat.com/ (http://partsplusecat.com/). Click the Cross reference Tab, enter the part number and hit search. It will show other part numbers and parts that match and you can even get details about the part. This is the site that Autozone uses to cross reference parts for you in store.

For Example, the OEM Bosch FPR part number is # 0 280 160 200. I hit search and resulting part numbers on the right hand column are PR400 and 158-0073.
If you click either of those, it will show images of the part,

Cross referencing part #'s PR400 and 158-0073 led to a slew of other options. Checking out the pictures even showed me that the Beck Arnley FPR produced slightly better manufacturing

Is there an issue with parts that look like other parts, but dont function properly? My understanding was that FI systems between i think 60-90 were all similar, especially among jaguar, VW, Porsche.

Just curious, as I have a 49K mile K75, which most likely has the original FPR.

With our FPR being the bellow vacuum type, I suspect sitting too long may have injured it. I wouldnt call it a regular maintenance item. Also, I just enjoy going out on a whim to find information.

What was stopping you from running a pressure test—CBB disorder?

When I squeeze the line between the fpr and end of the rail I can romp on the throttle with no issue whatsoever. I followed a post from a few years ago with a similar issue. I’m holding off on installing the new fpr until I know for certain it’s the problem. I found it cheap enough to have for a bit and run more tests and have it for when And if I need it. If I don’t need it, then it’s going back. I more or less made the post to share the cross referencing platform I’ve been using.

Well, AutoZone, NAPA and perhaps other parts vendors will loan all types of specialized equipment to customers at no cost. A deposit comprising the cost of the gauge is made by the customer using a credit card then a refund to the card account is made on return of the equipment. I've been loaned bearing pullers, gauges and other costly equipment several times with no problems. Inquire locally. You are, after all, located at the hub of the world.

Post by: 1ockdown on October 24, 2019, 12:11:37 PM: Did what Laitch suggested, dont know why I forgot that AutoZone lends out equipment. Came out to $162 w/ Tax fully refundable upon return. Doing this process taught me that, correct me if wrong, the hose from regulator to tank is a bleed off hose and bleeds off pressure higher than 38ish psi, and in my case, sat next to 0-2psi. Tank to rail was in 36psi +/-2 range, and rail to regulator was 36psi +/-2 range. Gauge jiggles a bit. So I don't need the regulator I bought and will return it.

Post by: Martin on October 24, 2019, 04:39:39 PM: The biggest concern with FPR failure is the diaphragm can leak allowing fuel to be drawn into the vacuum line. This can lead to a Hydraulic lock resulting in a bent conrod and other nasty things.

Happily, inspection for leakage is a simple process.

Pull the FPR vacuum line from the throttle body. If fuel drips out, you have a leak. Don't ask me how I know, suffice it to say that rods were bent.
