Post by: jimmyk on November 03, 2011, 09:14:12 PM
just wondering if anyone knows of any kind of cleaner that will take off oil in some nooks on the engine?
its in a very tight area where a rag will not fit. i was thinking maybe some throttle body cleaner or something similar ? ??? ???

WD-40 works surprisingly well for small areas.  Carb cleaner is another option.

I bought a used pickup last year and my neighbor showed me how he cleans his engine compartment. Full can of degrease sprayed over entire engine. Lets sit for 15. Attacks it with a electric power (1500 psi) washer. Then he takes a can of that Costco non wipe off tire black ch!t and sprays entire engine. Looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. He does all his rigs twice a year. And just before selling one. Impressive.

Doesn't the tire black stuff that gets on hot parts like the exhaust manifolds smoke like mad and burn off?

When I did it I tried to confine my spraying to the non metal ch!t but when he did his............
I'm sure it burns off but it's not that bad.

Whenever I do a spline lube I get a can of this for degreasing the transmission and center stand.  That and a sponge will get things VERY clean.

I've been using oomph degreaser, but i use it in combination with a rag cloth. I never thought about using engine degreaser (i think of car engines) but it should serve the same purpose, and maybe even work better. I'll be picking me up a can!
