That’s what K bikes are known as over here in England, as they ain’t ‘sporty’, or ‘cool’, unless they have been turned into a cafe racer.
What about over there? Is there a ‘ certain sort’ of person that rides them?
-
Dude, have you seen the pictures of other members here?
:giggles

My K75s have been called 'girl's bikes'. But that's only by K100 riders. Otherwise, I've had nothing but compliments from people of all ages. What you're hearing is douchebags talking. Why listen to them?

Ironically often said by "rebels" too scared to resist peer pressure and just repeating what they heard somebody else say.
Just ask how old I am.

I think it likely most riders on BMW touring motos are middle-aged or over. That's considered old by many people whose brains haven't fully developed yet.

I listen to EVERYONE! Caring what they say,is another matter. Personally, I don’t care.lol

ok... how old are you?

I ride what i like and don't concern myself with what others think. I got my first airhead when i was in my twenties. Probably not what most people think of as cool. Even with all it's quirks, still a favorite of mine. Fast forward to now and when a clean k75 popped up locally I bought it. I have always been interested in them and it is a really competent machine. What's not to like? I've never thought of a particular motorcycle as an olds man bike, just never occured to me. They (k75's) seemed to be undervalued and great deals can be had used, a lot of motorcycle for the money.

I have a k75 now... and a CX cafe... lol
-
ok... how old are you?
That's a bit personal isn't it.
I respectfully decline to answer
On the grounds that I honestly believe
That a truthful answer
May tend to incriminate myself
Hint, think of a number between 1 and 100, add 56, then take away the number you first thought of.
And............ Loving it.
-
I think "mature" rather than "old man's" is more fitting

age ain’t personal, it’s happening. I’m 51 but old enough to know better. Age is just a mere measurement...know what I mean? K bikes ARE known as old men’s bikes. Even the guy that mot’d it for me said that, and he’s older than me.Lol!

lol.

I bought my first K when I was eligible for Social Security. 6 years later I am closing in on old age, so I guess my bikes are "old man's bikes".
So, f-ing, what?
They are easy for this old guy to work on, and they comfortably consume vast quantities of miles. There is something comforting in the 80's styling that appeals to this senior citizen. I guess I an't help it, I like them.
-
I buy and ride, whatever I like. As Scott said, who cares what anyone else thinks about it. If they think my K75S is a girls bike, or an old mans scooter, they should see my Sunday morning, Moto Guzzi 850.
Personally, I don't give a Monkeys Patootie what anybody says about my motorcycles.

Maybe I'm going deaf but I've never heard any disparaging words about my Brick. The couple of exceptions were a couple of mates who used to change bikes every couple of years. They wanted to know why I didn't update and I would just smile and answer no need to. They have long since given up riding due to various reasons, too expensive, safety, health. I only have one mate still riding from the good old days and he's in Vic and he just rides occasionally. His choice of ride is a Buell Lightning. The guy across the road was stunned to find out my Brick is 26 years old, he thought it was a lot newer.
Regards Martin.

no, should I?
You will eventually notice a bit of a pattern...

Yes, I agree. A mate of mine had a payout and bought himself a new Yamaha MT something or other. It’s a 700cc, looks and feels like a 250 in my opinion. He takes the pi££ out of my 37 year old CX and says I should get something modern.
Then I bought the k75!
I told him that it’s 5 years younger than the cx, it has 2 computer things and fuel injection, Hell, the sidestand even goes up when you pull in the clutch! How much modern can you get?
The only other bike that did that at the time was a GPZ600, I think!
After the money I have spent on both bikes, it’s equal (almost) to the cost of his bike. (Well, about £1500 cheaper). To be honest, I like the silliness and reliability of the cx cafe, and the anti vibe, weird sound of the K!
I feel that I’m better off with choice of 2 bikes, than only 1.
And I’m old, compared to my 9,15 and 17 year old boys!
Lol

Love this bike!

Fun question. I suppose if you’re into bikes, no matter what age, you will appreciate anything with two wheels, but if I had to peg who would likely own a brick in the U.S. it would be someone around 40 years of age and older. And then it would depend if it had no wind protection, a bikini fairing, or full wind protection (add a decade for each one). In other words, the more the wind protection the more it would tend to be a geezer bike. No offense intended to geezers! And then their is the “hipster” factor, who also would be attracted to and may own a bike such as this, but I wouldn’t count on them owning it for very long. No offense to hipsters!
Just my two cents.

Tbh, I just bought mine for something to ‘do up’ over the winter of last year.
Thing is, I quite like it now. Probably keep it for a while.
-
you'll still be riding your K when the "sporties" have been recycled into juice tins and cup-holders.
I have been weathered by and show the veneer of time, like my bikes cosmetically challenged but mechanically reliable and strong.
ride on!
-
No offense intended to geezers!
None taken, although I do prefer the medical moniker "slow breather."

Yeah, I get this all the time. People like my S, and they do not want to believe, it is turning 33 this year. Most of my mates has got younger girlfriends, than that :)

I think we have to face up to the fact that nowadays almost all bikes over 700cc are ridden by older guys. Here in CR a rider on a 'real' bike over 700 cc who is under 30 is as rare as rocking horse droppings...
That might just be here of course but I am sure I have read that bikers are an ageing crowd. I am sure that is partly what has driven the move away from sports bikes and sports tourers and more into super nakeds and dual purpose bikes which have a more upright riding position for us old geezers.
-
. . . bikes which have a more upright riding position for us old geezers.
A dropped position would seem to accommodate geezer-stoop. This is a paradox. :giggles

Both stock RS and RT riding positions work for me.
-
Although sport bikes are cramped, for a quarter, I'll give those youngsters a run for their money!
-
I'll have a crack at them a go. Preparations are underway, I need to fit some sliders to my helmet.
