Max BMW's parts fiche shows the same part number for all classic K models—K75, K100 and K1100–both 2V and 4V. New they cost ~$145.00USD

If yours is shot, you might want to get a new one.  With the way BMW has been raising prices lately, $145 is going to look very cheap in a year or two.

To extend it's life it is a good idea to waterproof it. I coated mine with Plastidip and it has worked flawlessly for the last 15 years or so. There are other products that can be used which will work just as well. It's also a good idea to replace the OEM mounting screws with stainless Allen bolts and coat the threads with Kopper Kote.
Regards Martin.

Had an odd thing happen with mine on the RS the other day. Leaving work, rocked it off the center stand and when I pushed it down into first, the gear indicator showed 5 instead of 1. I came back up into neutral and it was blank. Back down into 1st again, showed 5. Went ahead and pulled off. Once I shifted up into 2nd, it started working normally. Bike hasn’t seen rain in months. Denial kept me from looking at it once I got home =-}

Motobin has the Gear Position Switch # 61 31 1 459 593, for 78 British Pounds. A little less expensive if you don't mind the freight wait. They do note a gasket #18420 (their internal item number) as an add-on.

Last time I purchased from them, I batched a bunch of parts to make a single order, and it was very shipping cost efficient.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

I have one from my disassembled 1994 K1100LT. I can send you a photo. It worked OK before I took the bike out of service, but would need to be taken apart and have the contacts cleaned. The pattern for the signals sent as the rotor goes through the gears is readily available so you will be sure it is operating properly before you put the bike back together. PM me if you are interested. $45 plus shipping.

Cause is intermittent open circuit on the Yellow/White lead.  Possible cause is bad contact in the connector under the right hand battery cover that joins the switch to the harness.
