Title: Do I Keep the K1100LT? Tar Snake Redux and Cruise Control
Post by: k on April 08, 2019, 09:27:51 PM
I like this bike. I like the look of it. I like its performance, but I'm scared to ride it over a tar snake when it's warmer than 60 degrees out. I've discussed this in other threads. I've had Ks for a long time, and this bike is radically worse than anything I've ever experienced.

Are these bikes by nature horrible on tar snakes? My Harley goes over tar snakes without any complaint, whatsoever. The K1100 feels like I'm driving on ice, and this sensation occurs while going in a straight line. Will different tires absolutely guarantee that the tar snake problem is solved?

I also want a cruise control installed. I don't want to do a lick of it, myself. Is it possible to take it somewhere and have a reliable, professional, cruise control installed on it?

Thanks.

I don't believe they will.

I'm no engineer, but I did sleep in a motel 6 once.....

You will find that your Harley has wider rims than the LT, so the tires will be wider, and that will give you a wider contact patch to ride on, ie more tire in contact with the road, than with the LT tires.....

That should give you better control in that situation with parallel snakes, or rain grooves for that matter as well.

They go on for miles around here.

The Pirelli Angel GT completely changed the bike. It immediately went from terrifying on the Battlax to amazing on the Pirellis. I love this bike now.

The tar snake issue immediately vanished.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but tar snakes rarely bother me. I'm running Metzeler Roadtec Z8 on the Brick and Avon Road Riders on the British. Highway 127 is full of the things, but they never seem to upset the bikes.
Maybe it's the taller tires? The K and the Bonnie have 18" rears, the Trident has 19".

I'll look into the cruise control, my right wrist suffers from arthritis.
