Spent the weekend rolling around on the ground trying to service the splines on the new-to-me K100RS. That is definitely a multi-Advil job when you get to be an old geezer! :-\ When I was fitting the center stand I couldn't recall exactly what to do with the washers for the bolts that hold the center stand bracket. As it happens, there are four bolts and two washers. I consulted a parts fiche and discovered the washers apparently are to be placed between the bracket and the tranny; not between the bolt heads and the bracket. Is that correct? It may be the DPO lost two washers or, is it that the bracket should be slightly tilted in relation to the underside of the tranny by using just the two washers? ??? As always, TIA.
-
I don't think it tilts it, I think it levels it out. Why they can't just machine the mating pairs level ... no idea.
-
If it should be fitted with only the two washers, where do they go? To the front or to the rear?
Once again, I've taken apart stuff and failed to take photos and make notes. My bad!

The parts catalog shows a quantity of 4. I wouldn't bother putting them back on. (Or worry about it.)

My '85 K100RS is pretty original. Everything is working fine with my "center stand", kick stand, and clutch release. I've not had my "center stand" apart as of yet, (still a pretty new bike for me). So I truly don't know what I am talking about, yet. I just stuck my head and flashlight under my bike and took a look at the 4 bolts holding the bracket "center stand" in place. My bolts are "allen head" and there are no washers showing between the bolts and the bracket. I can't see any washers on these 4 bolts anywhere. It does not appear to be any washers between the bracket and frame either, but I have not loosened up the 4 bolts and taken the bracket off or away from the frame.

It may be the DPO lost two washers
DPO means? (I'm guessing, Doofus Previous Owner.)

spent the weekend rolling around on the ground and no photographic evidence...

No photographic evidence? Humm. Never even occurred to me that I'd need proof. And anyway, what kind o' guy is attracted to an ol' K-bike with the ass-end up on sawhorses? ::)
To sorta hijack a thread I myself created, I'm beginning to wonder at the gap between the parts fiches and what I ride around on. The case of the washers on the side stand bracket got me curious and while looking over the pix, I also noticed that the drawing shows Zerk fittings on the center stand as well. They certainly are not to be found on my 1985 K100RS. Was my bike outsourced to Italy and assembled on a Monday? :'( What about the attention to detail that the Germans are supposed to be famous for?
-
Just put it back together and ride it. A few washers on the center stand bracket do not matter one way or the other.
-
I recently removed my center stand on my 90 K75RT and it had washers on the 4 bolts not between the stand and the frame.

'DPO' commonly is shorthand for Dreaded Previous Owner. You've known one, I'm sure. Could be you've shaven him every morning getting ready to head for work. ;)
