Bought a top case from a K1100 LT today. I need a key so that I can rekey the tumblers to match my bike.
Picture of the owner’s key that I chose to leave with him ( he still needs it):

Does anyone have one that looks to match this profile that they can loan/rent/ sell me?
Otw, I will buy a blank for $10 and slowly shape to match.
-
Johnny- that’s step two. First, I believe I need a key that operates the lock mechanism. I do not have one at my ready.
Thanks -

Johnny- no problem, I appreciate the quick reply.
I’d like to improve my OP:
I have the key to my RT
I have a used top case from a K1100 that I want to rekey to match my bike. I don’t *have* the key to this massive top case. I have a picture and a tracing, and can drive the 30 minutes back to the seller’s house to use the key he still has. He neeeds to keep it. At least for a while.

Does you moto's ignition key fit to its hilt into the top case lock cylinder? If it does, go to this section. (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,11029.0.html)Look under the Locks heading and review instructions for removing and modifying lock cylinders.
-
Thanks - I will read in detail later today. On quick scan this morning before going to the seller’s home, it appeared that I’d need a matching key to rotate the mechanism to locked before sliding out the tumblers. Easy peasy on the 22l and side cases. Turns out that on the condo sized 33l top case the lock mechanism is encased and quick disassembly to access the tumbler retention release was non trivial.
So I paid the man his money and came home to figure it out. :-)
-
And ps - I tried my ignition and 2 other Bmw Neiman’s I have. All slid in but would not rotate.

It and they won't rotate the lock until you remove the cylinder and modify the tabs to accommodate the key according to instruction in the Locks section. Read up and see if it will work for you.
-
Blanks are unlikely to work until they are cut into some pattern. You could use the pattern of your ignition key to modify one of the blanks but your ignition key should work to modify the lock cylinder tabs. Replacement cylinders are available.

I understand this. :-). Either I hand file a blank or buy/borrow/ rent a match to use to extract the tumblers to allow for rekeying to my existing key. A one use situation!!
That’s all assuming that I *must* have a matching key to extract the tumblers.
Thanks again for the quick replies. :-)

Have you read this (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,494.0.html)?

Why not have the guy you bought the box from have one cut and buy it off him.

this.
there are are several standard ILCO key blanks that will work in Brick ignitions and cases. just take the original (and the case) to any locksmith and get a key made. total cost less than $5.

Thanks for the suggestion.
He only has one and its the folding type key.
It’s my assumption that getting a key duplicated from that original folding type is not something that my local hardware store knows how to do anymore. Ie, it doesn’t fit their automated key duplicator. I haven’t looked into this option as it seemed unlikely to work.

greetings...
all my dupli keys were made from a folding key...
will a key from a 22 fit a 35...
poast up photos of this lt top case... we wanna see this thing...

I've had a folding key cut buy a local locksmith. However the local locksmith seems to relish challenges and they more than one smith in shop. I've taken them locks without keys and they never seem to have a problem. BMW locks aren't that sophisticated. My key opens two of my mates tragkorbs and recently I bought a top box without a key and used a mates key to open it.
Regards Martin.

The whole key to having a key cut is to find a Locksmith not a hardware/Mr Minit shop that cuts keys. To a competant locksmith it's a piece of cake. Some key cutting machines can't do steel keys.
Regards Martin.

I need to see some photos of this 92K75RT.
You have posted photos of bricks with seats unknown to you.
Now it is time to show us your brick and that top case.
We do not know if it is OEM 22 or OEM 35 or EMGO or Sidenrock or GIVI or Shad or other.
So make sure your next post contains proper photos of your brick and of the LT top box.

I just read about a guy's K75RT being raped by a UFO. That is truly a sign of the End Times. :oldguy:

I believe the same key will fit either. It did today.
For you Johnny, anything. :-)
Here’s some pics before I started removing the speakers:

Just the typical 35L top case and mount bracket, right?
I’ll have a few holes to patch and it will get a quick paint job.

ACT when are you going to post a picture of your 1997 K 1150 RS SE Dakar Yellow Code 267.

Since you have an image, there are services that will make your key from that
I had one done off an ebay seller (not for a BMW) and the process worked (the service in this instance was for a fold-out key and the cutting from image was an option)
Do a google search or just search ebay
e.g. http://www.keysfast.info/

If you try that route, I'd suggest the picture of the actual key, and not the tracing....
