Title: K1100RS Mirrors from hell
Post by: JonnyB on February 21, 2019, 03:21:01 PM
Hi, I dropped my bike and broke off one of the studs of the mirror mount - so the mirror does not clip in anymore. They have always been a pain, and now do not work at all. I've had to duct tape the mirror together which is obviously pretty crappy looking. I will otherwise go and buy another mount and replace it, but has anyone figured out a better fix because this is the stupidest design idea I could possibly think of.

Thanks. Jon

It sucks that it broke, but they're out there.  I could probably get a pair here for under 20 bucks from this guy.

I have the, on my r1150 and love them. Just buy new o-rings and slather vaseline on them. They work great when the right tension is on the o-rings.

They do have this stuff called Glue. Works wonders for shit that falls off.  If the only thing broken is the mounting system.  Glued from the inside no one will know cept us......................SShhhhhhhhhh.

Thanks for the advise, I did have an idea to tap a little m3 hole through the stud plate and bolt the mirror in with a little hole through the inner plastic side beside the glass mirror, but this may have stopped the mirror moving free, and gerarally felt like a bit of a hack... so I caved and bought another stud plate. If this gives me anymore grief though I may reach for the epoxy in a rage!

Lastly, I take it there are nuts on the back of the screws holding stud plate into the fairing. I'm guessing I'm going to have to remove the rubber inserts where the fuel gauge is to get to the back of that. I'm learning how much of a faff it is to repair bikes with fairing! Oh well.

Cheers. Jon

It's not that big of a deal to get back there.  No more than 15 minutes to get at those nuts.

I agree.  Embrace anything with nipples.
