Title: WTB odds and ends
Post by: JPaganel on October 27, 2018, 08:20:46 PM
I'm leisurely looking for a few little things.  WTB, but I am not so proud so as not to accept donations :)

Left rear turn signal (just the black shell is OK) -- acquired
Black plastic fork cap -- acquired
Choke lever cap (don't care about markings, just want to prevent gunk from accumulating)
Ignition lock body - I don't care if it has a key, or a functional cylinder. Just need working locking tangs.
The outer cover for the gauge cluster. I have a cracked lens, so that's the bit that needs to be whole.

A few years back, I found a choke lever cap on EBay for not much money.

A few years back, I found a choke lever cap on EBay for not much money.

I check there periodically. Haven't seen any recently.  There are are some turn signals, but at completely insane prices. I want one, but not $86 bad.

I'm kinda hoping someone is cleaning out a toolbox, or some such thing. I don't really need showroom condition stuff.

It's the same thing. It and a blank cap were the only versions used on fuel-injected K-motos.

BMW used "choke" on it because the word enrichment was too long and had too many syllables to fit on the cap and still be in print large enough to be read by the geezers buying the motos. It's even labeled as a "choke" in the all the rider's manuals. Furthermore, an expressive pictograph of enrichment eluded the design team. Using the Mr Monopoly image was rejected as was the slot machine showing three cherries.

If you want an original look, either that or a blank cap are your choices.

That's what almost everybody has.

Lever screws into the assembly; cap snaps into the lever. A little glue applied to the cap is  sometimes recommended if the cap is loose. Diagram below is from the MAX BMW parts fiche.
