Title: That @#$% 95LT--now a whine when touching the brakes
Post by: ljjohns on October 15, 2011, 04:19:50 PM
Well, the third member of the three mechanical stooges did his thing again: Had the 95LT for a week of test-riding and all was well until this morning, when he called to arrange a swap-out for my K12 (which he thought needed exercising).
He's reporting a whine, first intermittent but now constant and intensifying when the front brake is used.
Is this the ABS in constant activation? And if so, where should we start to correct it?

Brake squeal is usually caused by vibrating brake pads. Apply a light coat of copper paste between the pistons and brake pads.

The whine is present when the bike is motionless; it intensifies when, while motionless, the front brake is activated.
The reason I am suspecting the ABS is that my 2003 K12LT routinely makes a similar noise due to the power assist mechanisms: engine off, it whines; engine idling, it still does when the brakes are activated.
I'm going to let it sit overnight and then see if it recurs tomorrow.
