Dear all,
I have a small but consistent oil leak at the front, which I narrowed down to the pressure switch, boot is full of oil. I have bought a new unit, but I have two questions, a) the new unit has got a screw in type contact at the end, which is loose, should I just tighten it nice and snug? Also, the torque value for the switch itself seems to be incredibly high, 40Nm, basically way over of even a brake caliper bolt. I have looked at various sources, the torque table lurking on the net, forum postings and Haynes, but is this correct? I do not want to strip a thread by going all He-man on that nut... Thanks!

When I changed out my oil pressure switch years ago I just used common sense, no torque wrench. No problems with it since. If the new unit has a loose screw in connection I would certainly snug it up.

+1 on common sense.... and by the way, even on the 1100's the factory manual lists the torque for the oil pressure switch at 40Nm.

Yes, I do have a set of 1/4 wrenches, for which I have a great feeling to already, I very rarely strip a thread. But I have just bought a high grade professional 1/2 with a lot bigger handle, and I'm so scared of doing damage, I barely tighten anything - checking my spark plugs with the torque wrench, I have tightened to 6-7 Nm instead of the 20 prescribed :) 40Nm is easily achievable with the big spanner (probably 100-140 is just as easy to pull if one tries hard enough :) ), so I might just get an 1/2 - 1/4 adapter and tighten the pressure switch by feel...
