My 88 k75c began acting up on Sunday after a 200 mile ride. First I parked and then when trying to restart, a buzz...not a whirring starting motor, bzzzzzzz over on the left hand side of the tank. A few minutes later it started right up. For a couple days it would occasionally do it and sometimes not.
Today it started and ran just fine, started again and then left and right turn signals came on together! A couple pushes of the paddle and the desired side worked...sometimes but not others and then it might be just fine. Plus no horn or horn cutting out. And the headlight stayed on with the bike off and key out.
I lifted the tank to see if there were loose connections to relays. Then it wouldn’t start...the buzzing again. Maybe the fuel pump coming on but the starter is not. Then it’ll start fine after a few minutes. Sometimes not. No apparently blown fuses. After I pulled the fuses and put them back in the signals worked perfectly! But just the first time I tried them. Then wonky again.
Once today the right signal paddle turned on the left hand signals! Would someone do me a solid and point to a place to start? :viivi :riding: :riding: :riding: :riding: :hehehe I’m feeling mystified! Everything goes crazy or works great or only some of it does. And when it starts it runs just beautifully as always.

Well, I do love this forum. Healthy’s been Here done this and did a great write up...so I’ll be cleaning a starter tonight I reckon. God Bless all you motobrickers who were about to respond to an already covered issue. :usa#1

Welcome and good luck with the starter. It's the first thing I thought of as I was reading your tale of woe. Please keep us posted on your progress.

healthy's write-up is here (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,4087.msg25090.html#msg25090).
robmack's concise, illustrated tutorial is here (http://www.k100-forum.com/t2342-starter-motor-cleaning-tutorial#18042).
There's a brush changing video in the Repair Guidance section, too.

Between Motobrick and the K100 forum it seems like there has been a few starter problems happening this summer. The starter looks to me like a weak point in the electrical system that along with the ignition switch causes a lot of weird whack. This past summer it seems like the starter has taken the place of the sprag and Hall Effect Sensors as the source of motobrick pain.
Maybe the starter should be included in the "I just bought a brick" maintenance baseline festivities. These bikes are getting older and it's hard to know what kind of environment they lived in with previous owners. New owners would be well served by knowing some of the age related weak points, how to correct them, and the advice to put them into their maintenance routine as preemptive repairs.
