Hello All,
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question. I received a Brown 1988 K100LT essentially from the original owner. It has roughly 22,000 miles and it is in fantastic shape. The battery was too low when I first attempted to start it so it smoked the starting relay. I replaced the relay and battery and the bike started up immediately and runs fantastically. I wasn't planning on getting a motorcycle when I got this one, but the owner who was going through a terminal medical condition insisted. I joined this forum when I got the bike and I was very enthused to get back into motorcycling, but with two small kids I just don't have time. Plus my wife doesn't like the idea on me on a bike again. In the past year I have ridden the bike twice so I would like to sell it.
I have all the previous maintenance records dating back to 1988 and all the original manuals that came with the bike. I also have BMW tank bag in excellent shape that was purchased with the bike. Everything on the bike works with the exception of the horn. When you attempt to honk the horn the fuse blows. I removed the horn relay to keep the fuse from blowing so all the lights would still work. It also has brand new Metzler tires that still have the knobs.
What should I price the bike at? Thank you for your input! The bike needs to go to someone who will ride her. She's a time capsule.

I have an 88 lt as well, it has a bit over 20K (miles) and mechanically sound with some dings and scratches but no top box. I figure it is worth 2,000 to 2,500 to me. Hard to say what it will bring in the market right now, seems to be some good deals out there.

After looking at all your pictures the bike seems to be in great shape but still think it would be hard to get 3,000 to 3,500 for it. I kind of hope it ends up with someone that will use it for what it was built for, good touring rig.

Hi - Unfortunately despite being the most expensive of the range when they were built the LT tends to be the least desirable model. However a lot of customizers like to get the LT because there cheap. My LT cost me £700 UK sterling although it wasn't in good condition like the one you have. I would pitch it up at around $1500 as a starting price on Ebay and see what interest you get. If you get a couple of people in a bidding war you may even achieve the price you want. If you get no interest you can lower the price and start again. Good luck.

its in almost near perfect condition from what i see... highly desirable by geezer roundel ridors...
look... the market is soft... you wont get much for it... looks like you have garage space... hold on to it... make sure your engine transmission final drive oils are topped off to proper levels... fill it with ethanol free fuel and marine staybil... ride it once every month or two just long enough till the radiator fan comes on...
in 10 years you will be very happy you kept it...

Bike looks to be in pretty good shape both mechanically and cosmetically, but the color is a bit unfortunate. If it was 1982 you might get an extra $200-300 but today it will knock that amount off. Earth tones are so 1970's.
Asking price will depend on how fast you want to sell it. I would say if you're okay with waiting a year or so to make a sale ask $3000. If you want it out of the garage next week, go with $2000-2200. Be prepared to negotiate if the right buyer comes along, as was mentioned, LT models are only popular today with the guys who hack frame loops.
Which brings to mind another strategy that is a bit more work, but might maximize what you can get for the bike. Strip the bags, fairing ,bodywork, windshield, seat, top case, crash bars, bars footpeg mounts and instrument cluster. Hack off the rear loop. I would guess that the parts could get about $1500 and you could sell the "low mileage Cafe-Ready" remains for $1000 -1200.

The condition indicated by horn and light malfuntion might involve the starter or an alarm. Getting that squared away will help your bargaining position.

I definitely wouldn't want someone to chop it up. It is in too great of condition. It was garage kept and under a motorcycle cover it's whole life by the original owner. If I'm looking at $3000 at best I think I'll just hold on to it. Thanks for everyone's input. Much appreciated!
