My bike is a 89 k100rs with 83k .Recently heard a noise coming from my final drive area when I had the bike on the center stand and rotated wheel by hand. Sounded like a rubber item rubbing against something at certain points when the tire was being turned. I removed the wheel, calipers, and disk off to be certain none of these were the problem. Putting the the wheel bolts back into the hub( in order I could have something to grasp) and turning the hub by hand the noise is still present and at those points where the noise is heard there is some resistance felt. Nothing to the point where the tire locks up or takes any great force to turn forward. Once the wheel passes that point no noise and no resistance. I should add it makes no difference whether the wheel is turned forward or backwards. Anyone have any ideals or am i just a crazy old man with too much time on his hands. Seriously as always thanks. If you got that much or it apart pull the FD and check the shaft splines and U joints. The FD itself it usually pretty trouble free. I have heard of the sensor ring for the speedometer pick up coming loose but that does not sound like the issue.

Try using an automotive stethoscope (probably about $10.00 Harbour Freight) or a screwdriver to narrow down the source of the noise. Noise can be hard to track, you think it is coming from one spot and it is coming from another. A stethoscope is a worthwhile addition to your tool armory.

There seems to be a condition developing so it's best you find where it is. Have you tried checking for looseness in the final drive by attaching the wheel, grabbing it at each end of its diameter and determining if it has the slightest wobble when pushed and pulled?
Try Chaos's and Martin's suggestions. Your bike's driveshaft might be starting to fail.
