Title: Temperature Gauge sensor

I apologise if this has been posted before but I've searched and can't find anything.
I have a k1100Lt and the temp gauge no longer works, I've checked the actual gauge and I know that works so tells me the sensor is at fault, quite strange because it worked right up until I drained the water and refilled and then it no longer worked.

When I look at the waterpump I have 2 sensors but I dont know which sensor is which.
the manual said there should only be one sensor but I'm lost to know which is which.

Any help greatly appreciated .

Which manual are you using? The water temperature gauge's sensor is indicated by the red arrow. If your bike didn't have water temperature gauge, there would be a screw plug in that opening. The oil pressure sensor is the other.

Have you removed the rubber boots to check cable connectivity?

Thanks very much for your info.
I am using the 1100LT service manual but the manual I have has a bung in where the sensor should be and shows others on the radiator which I don't have.

I'll need to see if I can get another manual.

Have they ever been known to strip the threads on the way out since I'm pretty paranoid about that happening?

I need to use the word bung more.

Anyway, the threads of some fasteners, plugs and bungs of all descriptions and locations everywhere have probably been stripped on the way out or been stripped on the way in by somebody. Patience, heat, penetrant and occasional success will all work together for symptomatic relief of anxiety.

First though, you were asked a question by wally.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, I've just finished 11 hours finishing the bike.
Thanks Laitch for the info I changed the sensor ok and now have temp gauge working.
Wally thanks for your advice too, I've made sure all the connections are good.
Radiators fitted, temp gauge fixed, water flushed and refilled, flushed and refilled again with coolant and now al is good.
I've changed the front calipers and pads and drained, flushed and filled the engine oil, gearbox and the final drive, so now It's time to get her back on the road today, she's been in hiding for nearly 3 years now, so now its time to enjoy  :bmwsmile

You have got to fess up, where the hell did you find a sensor?  And a crush washer seals the sensor.
