So I managed to set my bike on fire today. :yow I was testing the spray pattern of the fuel injectors when they leaked and caught fire. :nono Thankfully I had a fire extinguisher near by and stuffed a blanket into the engine compartment so I could get it out of the garage and finish putting the fire out. I shouldn't have tried this in the garage. :nono This definitely the biggest idiotic thing I have ever done. :deal: <--- officially added me to the "idiotic things done while working on your brick list"
Now to figure out if it's worth trying to fix or just part it out.
The good news:
I got out without getting hurt or burned.
The house and garage didn't get burned or anything.
I've only got about $900 in the bike ($400 purchase prices and about $500 in parts and repairs)
The bad news:
The garage smells horrible
The house smells horrible
To part out or fix the brick

That looks like a good candidate to part out, should be able to recoup some of your loss rather than just throwing more money at it. Where you at and how's the drive splines look? (hint hint)

Final drive splines look good. Driveshaft is almost worn out. The bike could be sold off whole or in pieces. The clean tank might bring a couple hundred dollars on a good day if it has no pinholes. Marketable items include engine covers, engine block, throttle bodies, final drive, wheels, transmission, a handlebar, etc..
Knowing how the fire started would be helpful. It looks like sprayed fuel might have been ignited by a spark near the coil and flames went upward from there. Congratulations on gathering your wits then extinguishing the fire without further damage to your property. :2thumbup:

Sorry to hear of the fire. It sounded like you were making some progress on it.
On the good side, you and your house and garage survived unscathed beyond some nasty aromas.
On the very good side, your brick went out in a blaze of glory rather than suffer through a cafe hack.

That sucks big time. Thankfully you escaped with only damage to the machine.
Once you take a good look at all the components that may need replacing it may be a better candidate for parting out and finding a replacement. They are out there and you may be money ahead with a better ride.

I've been taking a look at what might be needed to get my brick back up and running or if I should just part it out. I found this craigs list ad (https://fresno.craigslist.org/mpo/d/bmw-parts-lot-k75-k100-can/6592393097.html) that makes it really tempting, even if I had to buy all of it. Has a throttle body assembly, coils, wiring harness, air box parts, ECU, and much more.

It looks like that would take a big bite out of it. It could easily reverse the gloomiest outlook so I'd have to do it. If I passed, I'd be afraid I'd spend the next few years wondering if that would've made the difference in rescuing it.

It's just a motorcycle carcass. It's not like it's that girlfriend you regret dumping and wonder if only you had stayed with her, things would be different now. They wouldn't. The Honda works. Save the money you get from selling Cinderella's parts. Maybe another will turn up.

I'd agree with Chaos. Put whatever you have that's salvageable boxes and find a donor. Use the frame as an admonitory garage shelf-thingy, or for a K-oat hanger.
You'll need those extra parts at some point.

Shut... that is really sad to see.
Whatever the road you will take I do hope that in the due course you will have a running bike.
Just think what would be IF it was not the bike only. Look at the bright/er site of things and... well... learn from experience.

So, over the past month I've been looking into what the full damage is and if I want to part the bike out or fix it. I've decide to fix it. Like a phoenix this brick will rise from the ashes.
Here is a list of parts that I am looking for if you have any and want to sell or give them to me send me a PM.
Fuel Rail
Fuel Injector Wire harness
Top section of an air box
air box intake chamber and boots
plastic ignition cover
Fuse and Relay box
Fuse box
left side panel (dark blue color)
Fuel Injectors
I've seen most of these parts on Ebay and I think it will cost be about $200-$250 to get be back up and running. At this time I'm planning on having the bike up and running by the fall. If all goes as planned.

I have a running 1994 K75 parts bike I just picked up. I bought the bike for the K75c plastic parts and a few other things. The bike has everything you are looking and in good running condition.

I have an engine with some of the parts you need. I got it really cheap so it doesn't owe me anything. I can do some of the stuff you need for not much more than the shipping and a bit for packing.
I'm pretty sure I can do the following(I'm not home right now, so will need to check tomorrow morning):
Fuel rail
Air box with boots
Relay box(I have to check)
Engine harness
There might be more, but like I said, I'll need to look.

Went out in the garage this morning and here is what I have:
Fuel Rail
Top section of an air box
Air box intake chamber and boots
I thought I had an engine harness, but as I was cleaning it I noticed that the wires for the MAF sensor were cut and the connector is not there. The harness is useless, but you can have it if you want for the injector connectors.
Unfortunately, I binned the relay box I had about two months ago because I figured I would never need it. If you want this stuff, you can have it for the cost of shipping.

I have a harness, most of it is a mess but I am pretty sure the engine part is fine.
